This is why I didnt cut the guard out of mine when I did the scoop mod. The first day I had the scoop on, I got home from a ride and noticed a leaf lodged in my scoop blocking 80% of the airflow.

I hesitated before I cut the guard out. Went against my better judgement and did it. Oh well, I still think it will look better even with the mesh, once I paint it black. Since I'm going to be doing more smooth slow street riding on the mati from now on, I think I might switch it out for the popcorn's stock one, and put the scoop on the popcorn stunt (With the mesh, of course)

You can spray paint the mesh black and then install an LED inside the scoop so it glows at night.

I ordered a new piston for the cylinder kit i got from Carlos a while back. I had broken the original piston on accident
So I measured my cylinder and original piston, and came up with 47.6 on my non digi caliper, so that's what I ordered. A single ring 47.6mm "race" piston from Carlos. Got it today, and slid it into the cylinder. Immediately knew it was too small. It slid all the way from the bottom out the top. Usually the piston wont go out all the way through. So I measured the new piston, and it only registered 47mm on my caliper! Shit! I think my caliper is off. I put the ring in there and I have a gap that is like 1.2 mm. I'm guessing this isn't going to fly too well. Unless I get the go ahead from you guys I'm going to go ahead and pack her back up to get ready to be exhanged. :banghead:
Just double checked the old emails from Carlos about the cylinder. It's a 48mm. Luckily I just found one on eBay that I can use for just over $20 shipped. It's a double ring, but I don't mind ;D
Anyone know where I can get one of those 103cc kits that are meant for 90cc minarellis?

I might just do that... Here's why... I put together my 1E40FM cylinder big bore kit after getting a new piston and using the correct base gasket. I was still unable to get in anywhere close to being in tune. I have, and went through almost all, of sizes 80-120 main jets. Trying both the stock filter, and Uni filter. Cleaned the carb and jets more than twice, and still had overheating and almost zero acceleration. This included more than two CVT roller changes. Going from around 3 gram rollers to 7 gram rollers. I even resealed the reeds and intake. No difference in power or tuning ability. After this I decided to do some checking on this cylinder I was using. The 71mm tall cylinder that Carlos sent me to replace the order I made for a regular 1E40QMB 48mm cylinder, which didn't fit due to stroke issues. I started to wonder, after reading about other 1E40FM engine tuners about how they could just bolt up 50mm+ kits without carter modifications. I wondered, what is my carter? Did some measuring and comparing on three different cylinders to come up with an solution to my problem of untunability. From left to right. Autotech Cylinder - 71mm tall - 51mm carter bore Stock 1E40FM Cylinder - 68mm tall - 57mm carter bore Stock 1E40QMB Cylinder - 64mm tall - 51mm carter bore The 71mm Autotech cylinder is not sealing properly around the boost tunnel. I'm not going to be able to return the kit to Carlos, seeing as he gave it to be for free, and I painted it. It also seems to me that it would be lowering my carter compression since it has less material inside, by looking at it. I was thinking of getting the cylinder milled down to the right height, as that would totally fix my problem with the piston being below the ports at BDC by almost 4mm, as well as the crown of the piston being below the deck of the cylinder by the same amount. But now I'm not sure if I should try to make this cylinder work, or just go bigger... Can you hook me up with a link to a 54mm kit that will work with that crank and my carters?

Here are the measurements for one of Autotech's 54mm kits. Here's a gasket for the above cylinder on a 70cc cylinder just to show how things are lining up.

Thanks Brent. Should fit just fine. Looks like it will match up perfectly, actually.

Are you planning on swapping the crank? You'll need a minimum of 42mm stroke..

IIRC the 1E40FM had the 42mm stroke from what was said? If so, you lucked out and this is the easiest "49cc" to 96cc swap ever from the way it looks.

Luckily my stock crank is just over 42mm stroke

The way the guys were talking about them over at scooterinvasion made it sound incredibly easy to put 90+cc on these Linhai motors. I guess it's worth a shot. Got any links to some good deals??
