Thought I would post about my newest addition, 2006 United Motors Xpeed 50R, and what upgrades I've done to improve performance. I got this scoot in trade of a Jonway 2008 150cc Lambda, a nice grunt of a scoot but no title and no chance of being operated legally (cops make me nervous) so it was only good as a parts bike. It would do 30-33 mph and no more so with the help of 2stroke, I clipped a wire on the cdi and it now runs a top speed of 40-42 mph, 45 on a downgrade but cruises comfortably at 38 mph. The rollers were worn and replaced with Dr Pulley 6gr sliders which helped with take off as well as mid to top range making power delivery smooth and consistent. I have a technigas pipe on its way and will post here when it's installed with results of it's performance. The next upgrade will probably be a 17.5 or 19mm carburetor. I'm thinking 17.5 to keep the automatic choke but if 19mm can give the uumph, well...any feedback on carburetion would be helpful. Oh, btw, this is a Morini engine and parts aren't as plentiful as minnarelli but they are out there if you look. So this is where I am at the moment, hope to have a quick little machine yet retain it's integrity as a daily rider without flogging it to an early death. ;D

Which Technigas pipe are you getting? If it doesn't come with clutch springs, you may wanna get some to make up for the low end you will probably lose with the pipe. A 19mm Arreche has auto choke. Nice little carb. Kinda pricey. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=carb&action=display&thread=366If you ride in the winter, you may appreciate a manual choke more. I find my manual choke carbs easier to start year round. Only problem is that you have to be able to reach the manual choke lever or install a remote choke lever and cable.

Sound like your on the right path. I would go with the 19 or even 21mm with a manual choke. Those pesky enrichers! Never know when their on the fritts?

I believe the present carb is a 14.5. Is a 19 or 21 too much for just a 50cc cylinder? The clutch spring is not included with the pipe and the pipe is the technigas nextR. At this time I'm attempting to stay at 50cc for gas mileage but won't discount a 70cc bbk for the future. Mileage might not be a problem though if the tuning and upgrades are balanced, eh? Still a lot to learn so need to go slow and methodical to understand what I'm doing. A manual choke would be one less thing to go wonky, that's doable...what advantage does an aluminum cylinder have over cast iron or vice versa?

I think 19 or 21mm would be overkill for a stock 50cc cylinder.... especially since you wanna keep gas mileage. Putting a big carb on is a sure fire way to drop gas mileage, or it has been for me anyway. I used my stock carb with a 70cc kit on T1 and still got mileage comparable to stock IIRC. I thought you mentioned felliot boring your carb for you? If you wanna keep the best gas mileage and still make more power, maybe look into a 17.5. That would still be OK with a 70cc, assuming you don't get some wild race kit.
I like cast iron cylinders for street scoots. I think they're more durable. I've put in new piston kits and honed a couple of my cast iron cylinders after many miles or just mishaps. If you mess up the plating inside an aluminum cylinder it has to be redone. To my understanding, re-plating one often costs as much as buying a whole new kit. To be fair, I really know nothing first hand about the durability of aluminum cylinders. I own one aluminum BBK, and it has not even been fired yet. Aluminum cylinders heat more evenly so they're less likely to have hot spots and stay cooler in general. They are also lighter.

Thanks for the info, Brent. Yeah, felliott mentioned boring out the stock carburetor, I just haven't got in touch with him but he has the experience and machinist tools to do it. The more I think about it , the more inclined I am to let him bore it out. It would be a lot cheaper than 100 bucks for a new carb.

When I placed my order to scootertronics, I received 3 out of 4 items, the 4th being the power pipe. After a week I e-mailed Michael to ask when I might expect the pipe; he e-mailed back immediately and told me the pipe would arrive last week...no pipe and now is a week later. Shot him a new message and am waiting for a reply. Meanwhile, I can't find a pipe anywhere in USA for a pipe that isn't listed as sold out, however, UK seems to have them in abundance...any idea how long a wait would be from UK to here?

Sorry for your run in with Scootertronics. I dealt with them some time ago thinking they'd be fast since they're so close. They didn't include a cylinder head with a big bore kit and then told me they couldn't get me one. Try SIP from Germany. www.sipscootershop.com They're the best overseas site I've found. They can get you something in about a week with standard FedEx (I usually pay the $5 or whatever for same day processing). You can get it in a couple days express.

Concerning the second product, sometimes in translation things get a little off kilter. " Optimized chamber system gets you better traction and more torque. " .... does this thing heat the tire or something?

Thanks for the links guys...I've had difficulty on past orders from him but don't want to be confrontational as he can be explosive at times. To his credit, he did e-mail me back a second response very quickly telling me he was told it shipped weeks ago and is going to investigate who dropped the ball. It's possible an employee of his didn't follow through...if I can't get some results soon, I will buy one from sips and deal with s-tronics later. Thanks guys, you're all very helpful.

It's not just us. There are a few threads over at ScootDawg concerning Scootertronics. Some of the employees that post on other forums seem cool, but in general there are much easier places to deal with and get what you want faster and cheaper.

Yeah, I actually have an old rant on SD regarding a botched shipment from Michael...just don't want to go there again. You'd think we could get better service from someone just over the bridge but I guess it's not to be. Best case scenario is I'll get mike to either return my money or give me a credit on something he actually does have in stock; that should be interesting in itself.

Good news; the technigas pipe arrived today so Mike's off the hook and scootertronics is back in my good graces...now I have to wait until Tuesday to put it on, maybe...will keep you posted.
