The stuffer helps direct airflow and keep velocity up. My stock vino Reed block had one that looks just like that

Makes me wonder yet again why the Yamaha Vino is the only Mina (ive seen) with the cage slanted in the right direction?. Its a good thing, i wish we saw in more OEM setups. .35mm is a good thickness to go for. The stuffers help icrease velocity. Much like the spray end of a garden hose does.

Noticed another strange thing about the Vino engine cases. Only 1 screw, the top one holds the oil pump in place. The bottom one has been machined to the correct level to match the top hole, but the hole only goes through 1/2 way and is not threaded. I wonder why they did that?

Any pic of this engine would be greatly appreciated man!
If you split the cases ide love to see a pic of the inside!
Thanks!

I should have taken pictures but I did not. I also should have done at least a little case work, since I will most likely end up putting a 70cc kit on it. My original plans were to just slap a 50cc kit back on it, but you know how things change.

I have set up the degree wheel to take a look at port timings for this particular 70cc kit I have. I noticed some things looked a little strange when I first bolted the cyl up. With 1 thin base gasket the port timings are: exhaust 166 Transfer 129 Boost 131 The transfers are fully uncovered at BDC, but the exhaust and the boost are not. The deck height looks a little low with only 1 base gasket, but I think the supplied head would take care of that. Its the clean one in the picture. If I use 1 thick AND 1 thin base gasket the timings move to: Exhaust 170 Transfer 131 Boost 133 At BDC the exhaust port is almost fully open, transfer and boost fully uncovered + 52 degrees. The deck height ends up about 2.31mm below the deck. I dont know enough yet to know what you can get away with. I am sure I could just bolt it up as is with the 1 base gasket and run it, but I would rather take some time here and optimize it a bit. I know I could use 2 base gaskets, profile the top of the piston a bit, and/or raise the top of the exhaust port, but I think the resulting deck height would kill compression. If I only use the 1 base gasket, the ports don't open up all the way. What to do? What to do?

I can see the nice trench cut in the first pic the factory has for a better flow path than other Mina,s. That saves an hour to 4 easy in work already.
Seems that kit is a low rev, torque happy one out of the box. Like a Polini Sport kit. What exhaust are you trying to match to again? If its the Next R I would leave the durations lower and try that out first with a tighter squish. Maybe a thick base gasket to get the trans duration up a bit, then file some material off the ex side of the piston to get exhaust duration a bit higher

So what is the better setup for it? Thanks, Scott

Maybe a thick base gasket to get the trans duration up a bit, then file some material off the ex side of the piston to get exhaust duration a bit higher As 2strokd said..The kit I sold ya is a torque happy BBK using a thin single base gasket..with a tight squish band Hoca clone type head that it came with. Yes the timing is near identical to the Polini Sport kit..just a lot cheaper in price and Taiwanese made. Same exact kits I use because it makes lots of power within the range of the stock pipe...so no need for a high performance tuned pipe. But when I shimmed it a bit and added my Techingas Next R pipe..it became a whole new animal and was able to rev higher and have a wider power band. But even bolted on 'as is' with no port timing adjustment and a stock pipe..it is NO SLOUCH then as well. Same Kit I sold to nelson and many others on here that used stock pipes that showed plenty of Gusto..then later updated to a performance pipe. That is one reason I want to send you this new piton kit I have... So in case you want to file a bit on your piston you will still have a spare brand new one should you decide to go back to where it was. Since the brand new piston and ring kit is free to you..ya can't say no.. Now that my hectic week is past..I will zip it on out your way Monday. This one came with port windows in the piston where the other did not..which well..is still a confusing issue to me. But maybe it does matter? All my 10mm wrist pin BBK kits come with a ported window..but the 12mm wrist pin BBK ones didn't. However!!??.. The new 12mm piston kits themselves did come with a ported piston. So tinker with both and ya may come up with a real NASRA Contender.. Just remember a Vino is a very lightweight Scoot..and they really fly with a BBK.. Glenn

I had a very productive day today. Weather was beautiful! Lots of scooter oriented stuff got worked on. I put a new throttle cable on the 70cc street race scooter, it broke at the twist grip the other day, and almost stranded me. After I got that fixed, I went for a 12 mile ride down the boulevard,(lots of people here!) I put a new cheapo carb on the stock red RX8 (the ride that started all this scooter insanity for me!) I rode it the other day after the cable snapped on the 70cc scoot and it was fine for about 10 miles but then it started cutting out and almost stranded me. It has had a intermittent starting/running issue for a long, long time I am hoping the new carb will fix that. I just slapped it on took it for a test ride and the jetting seems great. I power washed the vino chassis , and took it to the warehouse. I had to repair the scooter lift because my buddy used the actual winch part of it to place some equipment this week and they fudged up the mast pretty bad. Took me 2 hours to get it working right. I even worked a couple HVAC service calls in. I cant wait to get the VINO put together, I am getting closer to some real progress, I hope. I may need to pick up a new reed cage for the Vino now, because when I was trying to see if the Hoca CF reeds I ordered would fit the stock cage, I noticed that 1 of the four original metal reeds was ever so slightly held open for some reason. Most likely it was overheated when the PO nearly melted the rod off of the crank! The Hoca CF reeds will not work on the stock reed cage, so I will have to order CF sheet and cut my own, or just use the metal ones I have. Does it really matter if the reed is just slightly open?

Reeds should be tight.. I have seen MANY of the stock Phenolic Plastic Reed Cages warp from heat..and the Reeds don't seat properly. That is why I get the aluminum cages that have a vulcanized rubber coating..they seal well and don't seem to warp as easy..
