Mine doesn’t have that ground, they must of changed things over the years of building them or I’m an idiot witch is probably the problem. Anyways, I’m over this POS. I hope it catches fire. Don't give up on it. Take a break from it and let your mind cool down.
Remember the trouble I had with my Roost build? How many times I was so close to take a huge hammer and smash it to pieces. However I did finally manage to get it running. The wiring is a friggin nightmare, believe me I know.
Best would be to start from scratch again. Take everything apart and put it back together step by step. Make sure you got spark by holding the spark plug to the engine case as soon the engine is together.
Also make sure you have a wiring diagram so that you can trace all the grounds and make sure they are connected correctly. Double check squish and spark plug type. If the manual says 0.XX squish then do so. It's the little things that get you.
You'll get there just take it easy. There is no hurry. Some projects take longer than others.

It starts and idles perfect,It just starts to break up bad after about 5k rpm. And of course i threw out the original gage cluster so I can’t just plug everything back together and see if runs good again.

Hmmm, what does it use for a tach signal??

Do you have access to a wiring diagram of your Prebug? You could track down all ground and body-ground wires and make sure they are connected.

Hmmm, what does it use for a tach signal?? There’s no gauges on it anymore, all I left was the temp gauge.

Not to thread jack but I'm having the exact same issue with my prebug. I know the problem is in the headset because when I wiggle the wires near the cluster the cluster backlight will come on and while that light is on it runs fine. Also, when I wiggle the rear brake light switch it seems to affect the backlight on the cluster. Wierd stuff.

I have another known good cluster from my jog (it's a oem cw50 cluster) I can try and I'll report back, it may be a help to you.

PIGDid you at any point during the rebuild touch or remove the Iggy?

Fail. The harness connectors are different between the two clusters, different years I suppose.

OK, so I have figured this out. To give a quick backdrop on my situation, I swapped the cw50 motor that I previously had on my jog to my prebug (with some changes I made while it was out.). So that motor has a malossi OR and no starter. This prebug relies on the starters ground as the main engine ground, so I made a ground wire with a ring terminal bolted to where the starter should be running to the negative terminal where the starter would plug in to the main harness and it cured my issue. So long story short, it was an inadequate engine ground causing my issue. So maybe retrace your steps, see if you left any grounds loose, or maybe add an engine ground to see if it helps, and take it from there.. I know you got this don't give up.

Made a quick ground strap like you said and all is good again. Thanks a million buddy!

Just got back from a good test ride. It feels so much better with the mx bars, should’ve done it years ago. New tires, seat and bars were totally worth it. Now it’s time for a top speed run, this thing rips pretty good.

Alright! Now you're back in the game! So it was a ground issue. It's always the small things that get you.
