The gasket material i got is 1.6mm thick.

Should be fine. Just make sure you check your squish clearance after it's all torqued down.

You don't need a torque wrench. Tighten in a crisscross pattern.

I used a piece of paper and cut a hole in it for the skirt then slid it over the cylinder and scribbled with a pencil on it and cut it out. Does it have to be perfect?

The outside by no means needs to be perfect, but you want to "port match" the gasket.

But do i need to have the little slivers in there that look like they will just come off because they're so thin

Like the part that would go around that rectangular port with the little slivers around the skirt. Do i need to put those slivers in there?

Well i just got the engine put back together. But i do have one problem... a massive exhaust leak.
