I guess I need a new fan then huh? And I don't have an impact. I'll have to stop by my dads house tomorrow and borrow his.

And I'm also missing one of the bolts for the cvt cover.

That's the fixed pulley. It'll be ok but you can get them pretty cheap at partsforscooters. Your going to need to measure the shaft if it's the large spline(17mm I think) partsforscooters lists them as minarelli 90.

So it is okay if the fins are broken off?

It should be. Just be mindful if you feel any vibration.

I got my transmission taken apart. I borrowed an impact from work. It doesn't look too bad. Rollers are in good shape. Clutches aren't too worn out. I'll post some pics when I get back to my computer.

Hey Brent, what did you say that lip on the variator does? Did you say it causes it to not go together all the way?

It reduces the amount of clearance for the belt a little in "low gear" and then if it's removed it would let the pulleys close up a bit more. It's not something that has to be done, and in fact on a stock 49cc sometimes when the pulleys are changed around it will get into a higher "gear" than the small engine likes.

And if I have a lot of steep hills that I will have to go up, how would I want my transmission? Lighter or heavier gears and stronger or weaker springs?

The towers not the correct term but the parts on the variator that the v bushings slide on look abnormal. Anyone else see that?

It does look like abnormal wear. Are the bushings in good shape? With hills you want to keep RPM up so a stiffer contra spring or lighter rollers. I'm not sure what would work best for you and hills as far as modding the variator fan. It could work out great, and it may not. If you mod it you have to be willing to take a chance it won't work as you'd like. You could try a spacer in there and see what happens. www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9nNp9m_oMg

You can see they match up to the wear on the guides. If it's not rattling at idle you'll be alright for now.
