So since 2stroke's incident I have been extra weary of the police. I have had one follow me through the grocery store parking lot and onto two turns on side streets. I have been having them ride behind me and me having to slow down to 29 miles an hour on 35 mph roads where all the cars are going 5o mph. I really like my 50cc scooter. I have been riding it to work one or two times a week and on my trips to the store and joy rides. It is a joy to ride. But there is a but. I am getting tired of worrying about the police and I am even more tired of people in cars passing me in dangerous situations where I am going 5 miles over the speed limit already. One time I was riding 5 miles over the speed limit and a truck was climbing up my butt and I was way over towards the centerline of the road. He squeezed in between me and the side of the road! It was extremely dangerous. I could do nothing because I could not accelerate. I feel like I am in amore dangerous situation because of the modest power of the scooter, low visibility and concern about the police and speed.

Aint it fun!!You could just sit at home watching the TV all the time ;D!I know we are to putt-putt around by law,but I belive a strong running scoot will get you out of more spooky situations than a slug scoot, thats why I think mods are for safety too.The cops will laugh if they hear that excuse, and you didnt hear that from me!!

Well I have learned something from my year of fixing and riding 50cc scooters. I learned I like riding and wish to continue it. The question that is now forming in my head is: "Why not something with a license and insurance so I do not worry so much?"

LOL, well then you find yourself going 55 in a 45, you get the idiots pulling out in front of you because their mental capacity can't get past smaller must be slower, they will still try and squeese by around the right and yell at you for trying to kill yourself when you see them and say WTF...I was stopped by a flag man to allow a large trailor to pull out of a factory lot once and the guy behind kept trying to get around me..to go where I don't know. As far as the police go and keeping up with traffic you are better off, as far as the paranoid driving goes, comes with 2 wheels.

Prob lots of 25MPH states. Thats the law when I travel into DE too.
I think a little paranoia is good on a 2 wheeler. If it really worries you to go out though, it may be time to get something bigger. Like Goosey said though, you'll find plenty of crazies when you ride big bikes even. I have lots of friends that ride sportbikes. They have plenty of stories about idiot drivers still. One of them got ran off the road twice in a 30min ride from my house to his house one day. If you wanna feel safe, get a car with a roll cage or just stay home. :scared:

The advantage to bigger is that you can keep up with traffic in most area's so your not holding up traffic, take off is good enough to get ahead of cars from a stop so you can make yourself some personal space, though some yahoo will acasionaly still have to crawl up your bumm. Hills are not an issue. When you get pulled over you have that M endorsement. My speed still backs off pretty fast when I let off on the throttle, so I have been able to avoid hitting the dirt, or my face flattened on a truck door, when people have pulled out in front of me going 50+.

Yes that is exactly what I am figuring. I am in a little bit in a quandry, in that I really love my scooter. I am thinking about a small motorcycle. There is no way I can justify to myself or my spouse about having both. Actually there is no way I can justify anything else to her.

She didn't want me to have any of the scooters and does not want me to get anything else. Some things are inevitable though!

25 mph is ridiculous and dangerous. I think it would be safer to let 'mopeds' use bike paths if that's the limit.

MD is 30MPH. I was looking over all the Delaware laws within a month ago, and it did say 25MPH. Now I can't find any speed limit in their laws? Odd. Just so you know, one other I can prove is 25MPH is MA. It says they can't be capable of over 30, but you can't ride at over 25... www.mass.gov/rmv/license/7moped.htm

"Moped operators must signal their intention to stop or turn by using either hand." LOL. Guess you don't need turn signals or brake lights?

Wow. They need to think about that one. I've seen some folks that can barely ride with both hands. I can't imagine them trying to use hand signals.
