I realized today I have a 6" disk/belt bench sander somewhere in my shed. I dug it out, and went to pick up some discs for it. The best I could do was some 80 grit. I set the sander up, and 4 discs and 45 minuets later I ended up with this. Looks pretty good? But looks are deceiving. While it is nice and flat, it is not straight in relation to the case. It is over .6 mm off. I guess I was heavy handed on the sanding wheel. Oh well I will work on it tomorrow, and this time I will have a caliper to check with as I do it. It does not have to be perfect, but it does have to be better than it is. I met a young guy last week, he stays a couple homes up from me. He was on some type of scooter I had never seen before. He came by today, and asked if he could borrow a few tools so he could clean the carb on his scooter. I invited him to bring it over and work on it in my yard. His name is Demil, and he is from Bulgaria. He is here to work the summer as a lifeguard on the beach. Turns out he is well versed in the 2T world, mostly piaggio, and the stuff we don't see much of here. His current scooter is "crap" in his words, and I tend to agree! The carb will not idle without choke, and it appears to have just a main jet. I am not much help with 4T stuff, but He seemed to be doing ok. We ended up going on a ride after he got done working on his scoot. I let him ride the VINO, and I rode my 70cc yamati. We had a blast, but traffic was hell, so we cut the ride short, and worked our way back home. This is the scooter he was on.

Is that the trailbikes clone / pitbike engine in his scooter/noped? If so his "crap" ride is one I have wished I could find locally for a long time. Something I've wanted to some degree since my first scooter, but I never see them cheap enough for me. Swap a 125cc version in with a manual clutch and the right gears and the Myrtle Beach PD will have him handcuffed in no time!

He wants to sell it when he leaves in September. I am not allowed to buy any more scooters this year. So you should fly down here in September, buy it, and ride it home!

Well i guess you could say you inspired me. I started the job of tearing down a spare 50cc long case. My current scooter just keeps whispering "more power" in my ear. It has to be a long case due to overall size of the scooter.

I have not had the time to work on the jig I started at all. Seems like work, or family in town, or a birthday takes every spare moment. But I will finish the project, eventually. I need to pick up some cylinder studs for this build. Does anyone have a source for the ones I need?

Awesome! Sounds like you will have yours done before I get started good! I just ordered the studs, thanks for the link.

I'm not understanding what you have going on there.

Yeah, me either sometimes! Look back in the thread, and it may become clearer. Currently I am trying to grind the surface of the crank shown in the pictures flat, so the rest of the jig will have a straight foundation to be built upon. More to come, soon I hope!

On another note, are the crank wheels on your new crank any thicker? I know the diameter is larger and that has to be cut but will they drop in and the cases bolt up when the diameter is increased?

Figured I'd throw this out there for thought: I got a 90cc ATV "longcase". It's an Adly from a 90cc youth ATV. Can Am/Bombardier. It's actually a weird mix of shortcase and longcase... It has plenty of room for 12" rims and tires, yet uses shortcase gears. It also uses a longer-somewhat harder to find- belt. Engine code: JA90. Moofus is familiar with this Adly "longcase". Just thought I'd throw another option out there from the typical Polaris (shortcase) 90cc's.

I think you can still buy new bare adly 90cc cases but I'm not sure
