A heaver/stiffer/higher rpm spring will increase your rpms more than what they are now. It will take more force(either heavier weights or more rpms to overcome the contra spring. Also a heaver/stiffer/higher rpm spring puts more wear and tear on your belt and variator/roller-sliders/ramp plate guides. This will also create more friction and heat. In the end, if you are a heavier rider and need the cvt to "kick down" sooner on the hills or you are drag racing, id stick with my previous post thought. If you think the clutch is slipping, sand the clutch bell, sand any glazing on the clutch pads. See is that helps. If not also consider lighter clutch springs and or a new belt. Thanks.. That's what I thought. I'm going to try sanding the bell and pads this weekend. If that helps, I'll just go ahead and get a new clutch. I've got performance everything else, and that is the only thing that is still stock except for the 1k contra.

I didn't think you could buzz a engine built like this up to 10k rpm. Id be concerned about "valve float" and something catastrophic going wrong As for your contra spring, id might consider freshing the old spring with the same or going up one rpm range. I think going to the 2K spring will be too extreme. You really want to tune your CVT so your RPM's are in the peak power range all the time. Buzzing past the "power band" and then falling back into it is just extra wear and tear on your engine. Exactly. That's why I'm thinking my clutch shoes are worn, glazed, or the bell is glazed. The 1k spring I have in there isn't all that old, but the clutch is. So would going to a 2k spring drop the rpm peak or raise it?

It's just a Tao Tao type 49cc with a 50mm BBK, A9 Cam, 18mm carb, big valve head, etc.. just what my signature says.
It runs like a scalded dog. I'm thinking my clutch pads are glazed over or the bell is or something. I may opt to just buy a new performance clutch.
It has some serious pickup and go, and take-off and top speed are fast. Just goes high rpm at take-off, then at top speed around 8k.
And before this turns into a why did I do a 50mm BBK thread... I've had it installed for a couple years now without any issues.

I'm running with a 1k contra spring and using 8 gram sliders. If I go WOT, I'm peaking at 10k rpm. I was thinking about going to a 2k contra. I'm having a brain fart. Will going to a higher K contra lower the peak rpm or raise it? I upgraded the contra spring, my RPM's run higher now at the top end. From what to what?

I've now got a little over 1k miles on my 50mm BBK with big valve head, A9 Cam, etc.. Went for a ride for the first time since last summer today since it was so nice outside (80F) and it still ran like a champ!

Should add it to the stretched scoots thread Where is the thread? I can't seem to find it.

Sorry for the late reply. I've not been on here in a while.
I didn't make it. I had a friend of mine make it. You can get the bushings on Amazon, Ebay, or other scooter stores online.

Looks really good. Stretched just the right amount, looks cool without looking silly and ruining the handling. Thanks Paul! I still need to shorten my kickstand a little more. It's catching the ground if I turn too tight of a radius to the left. I may also shave the bottom of the engine where the center stand mounts. It's not catching on anything, but I think it would look better than having that area protrude down under the scooter..

You know what the stretch makes your scoot look better. Like it was mean to look like that. Well done old chap well done Thanks Tiny! What's funny is that it's actually way more comfortable. The seat is at a position now that is perfect. Before I felt like I was leaning a bit forward. No issues with the ride either. I'm taking it pretty easy on riding it until I get the new brake cable for the rear. Having only front brakes is a little scary, especially how fast this little scoot will do. Now time to find some foot pegs to add to the sides! May even get some yellow LED strips to line under the scooter for the night glow effect!

I ended up having to do a little more trimming on the plastic underside above the wheel. It would catch on the wheel when I hit a bump. Did some cutting and cleaning up which also meant that I lost my turn signals in the back.. This is also after removing the center stand. I've got some Amber LED strips to use for turn signals on the front and back of the scoot. I'm going to delete the original turn signals also.. Still waiting on my 84.7" brake cable..

You don't think that's gonna mess the shock up? Just an observation, I have no idea but it looks like u should move the top mount back a littlw If it does, I'll consider moving it, but after a test run yesterday, it seems pretty fluid in movement. Time will tell..

So all u had to do was get longer brake cable, throttle cable and extend the battery wire? Actually just longer brake cable and ground extension to the head. I had 3 grounds that originally went to a head bolt that I just put an extension cable on. The throttle cable I had bought when I originally got the scooter and the throttle was messed up. I accidentally ordered a throttle cable that was a little too long. Now it's exactly the right length! I still have to order a new brake cable... Here's some updated pics. I decided after these pics to remove the center stand so that's no longer there either. I still need to cut the old passenger foot peg mounts off also. I may go ahead and do that this weekend..
