I would have just extended the wire on the tach, but nice work on the custom mount. You'll want 1 pulse per revolution.

I was thinking about extending the cable but electrickery is my weakest skill and I didn't want to mess it up. I need some more learning. I'll post a better pic of where the tach is located, it is in the foot well but more like halfway up than at the bottom.

After leaving the undercoat over 24 hrs to dry I lightly sanded it with wet 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I then rehung the pieces and applied 3 coats of plastikote super black gloss. I sanded with wet 1200 grit wet/dry in between each coat. I'm going to leave it overnight, at the minimum, before applying lacquer.

So I sanded each panel with wet 1200 wet/dry paper. Once finished I remounted them in the spray booth. Applied the lacquer, 2 coats, and once I finished checked the pieces and it appears to have cracked the black paint! I went out and took some pictures but it's getting dark so I'll have better look tomorrow. I could literally cry!

A closer look at the panels in daylight. Not all the panels ended up like this though. I need to wait till next month before I can rectify them. I quite like the crazy paving look, it's just a pity it is not over all the panels or I'd keep it!

Panels have been sanded, removing all the cracked paint. I have given them a light base coat ready for painting tomorrow. I also drained the fuel tank as something is rattling around in there.

Today I resprayed the panels again. I used plastikote black gloss and used 2 cans for about 8 thin coats. The instructions said to apply subsequent coats with an hour. So in between coats I did little jobs. I changed the oil. I wanted to install a magnetic oil plug but it was the wrong size. I then discovered that if I removed the mesh the plug would fit into the spring perfectly. I also removed all the electrical tape as it Was looking tatty reapplied new tape. Now I need to leave the paint a few days to dry before sanding and then applying another few coats.

Sanded the panels with 1500 wet dry sandpaper a and allowed to dry overnight. 4 more coats of plastikote black gloss later and I notice one area that has developed a small run the rest looked ok. Once it's dry ill sand that are only and then apply a quick touch up. I can't wait for the panel painting to be over I really want to ride!

In between the coats of paint I occupied my time with other jobs. Installing replacement switches. Which now don't turn with the throttle. Grinding off the name from the CVT cover. I also fitted an A9 cam and carried out a little plastic welding.

Final decided the panels are not going to be improved anymore this year! Applied some wax to add a layer of protection. Painted the CVT cover silver. Replaced a bolt on the seat storage that snapped. I cut the broken bolt out and then plastic welded a new one in the whole. I need to level the bolt off and smooth the edges. I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Another week at most and I'll be back scooting!

Realised that the kick start leaver is black! That will not match the painted CVT cover So I just bought a silver one off eBay, should arrive next week.

Cleaned the chrome using kitchen foil and coke. Going to finish off tomorrow morning and will take after shots of the chrome cleaning and rebuilding. Also hopefully fixed the small exhaust leak the last.
