The ride is smooth with no coughing! I'm variating the throttle position as I'm still breaking in the bbk. Going to be taking the scoot to work and back the rest of this week.

So after riding for the whole week with an 80mj I decided to pull the plug and check how it was looking. To me that looks a lovely chocolate colour Gave the scoot a wash and little polish with my daughters help/hindrance.

Went for a 15 mile ride and after about 25 min the scoot lost power. It felt like fuel starvation the engine just died slowly. I pulled over and tried to start it again, it turned over but didnt start. I waited for a bit and then pumped the throttle the scoot fired but then died. Cue more throttle pumping and finally the scoot fired into life abot 15 min after it died. I headed home but 2 mile short the scoot died again. I pulled over and waited on the grass and posted on this forum before pumping the throttle and starting the scoot. I made it home without further incident. I thought it might have been the valves but wasn't sure as it took 25 min before the scoot died. I adjusted the intake to .005 and the exhaust to .006 While I was doing this I noticed the PAIR bracket had snapped. The system is still attached. I'm going to look into removing it or repairing it. 90GTVert advised to check the fuel system for fuel. There was fuel in the pipes but when I replaced the fuel lines I placed the the fuel filter under the air filter tube. So I unplugged and unbolted the petcock and moved the fuel line on top of the air filter tube. I don't know if it will make a difference but I thought it was worth a try. I also fitted the orange cdi I had lying around. I'm not sure what effect it will have but after using the black one for the past week I'll trial it for a could of days and report back.

Orange CDI results.
I have been riding around with the orange CDI fitted for the past week. I have noticed that initial throttle response is much more responsive and take off is a little better. I have noticed no difference in top speed. The downside is that the tacho I installed is not working correctly with the orange CDI. On the centre stand the tacho reads normal rpm, around 8000 max rpm, but when riding the tacho will not read over 4500 rpm even at wot. With the black CDI the tacho would read correct rpm all the time.
For the price I like the improved throttle response but the tacho issue means I'm going to swap back to the black CDI until I have the scoot tuned better.

Reinstalled the black CDI and went for a short ride. The tacho still never went above 4500rpm. I'm a little confused as I thought it was the orange CDI causing the low rpm readings. My PAIR blanking plate arrived in the post so I stripped some of the panels in preperation for its removal. I just need to watch Brent video first.
I rode wot and then let off the throttle trying to get the engine to die slowly but it just kept going. I'm still no closer to understanding why it slowly died previously.

Does the tach have different settings for how many pulses per revolution. Maybe it's just set wrong. Idle speed seem right? Mine hit 11000 or so before I quickly let off the one time I tested on the centerstand.

Mine hit 11000 or so before I quickly let off the one time I tested on the centerstand. Brent it does have different settings but I have not changed them since install. The rpm is normal on the center stand. I can get 8000rpm on the center stand but as soon as it's off the center stand and under load it only reaches mid 4000s.

The part that makes me suspect the tach is that it sounds like nothing else changes. I don't see why the tach would care if it's under load or not, it's just counting pulses... but if it runs the same and just your RPM reads low I don't know what else it would be. There's no way performance should feel normal if it's only at ~4500RPM. Is your tach wired in or wrapped around the plug wire? If it's wrapped I guess try re-wrapping, maybe a different number of wraps.

I had to wait in for a parcel so that gave me time to sort the scoot jobs that have been piling up. I removed the PAIR system. The blanking plate is in the plastic bag, here it is fitted. The front brake was very soft so I removed the reservoir lid to check. I'm sure there is ment to be brake fluid in there. I made a bleed kit out of some fuel pipe and an old bottle. That is some nasty old fluid. I also changed the oil. Pretty black. Once the parcel had arrived I went for a 15 mile ride. The scoot cut out on me on 3 seperate occasions. I'm going to start a thread about it.

A while back I bought a magnetic drain plug for the scoot. Unfortunately I was new to scooting and although the nut was the same size the plug was different! Well that obviously wasn't going to fit! I thought it would be wasted money but fiddling about with the parts I noticed the spring fit nicely over the magnetic plug and the plug fit into the current drain plug. I left the mesh out and decided to give it a try. The results were promising. The magnetic plug was covered with lots of tiny metal filings. I used this throughout the second bbk break in. All in all I'm very happy running with the magnetic drain plug fitted.

Those fluids really needed changing I only changed the engine oil about 3 weeks ago! I have no idea why it became black so quickly.

Perhaps you did not get all the old oil out last time and it has contaminated it. I know my wife's scooter oil always goes milky. She never rides it long enough to burn the condensation off the inside.
