You will get it man! Trust me i had lots of setbacks with my SunL but when i went on that test drive today and made it back home i felt like a kid on christmas man! Then the 30 mile trip i took after that...New years came early! Trust me when its all done you won't even think about the setbacks at all!

I can't wait, I am more excited about taking her for a spin than Christmas! I know this is a long term project but I'd like to be able to use her for some fun now and again, I'd hate for her just to be sat in the garage forever.

I hate waiting to ride my scooters. Since I got my Vino fixed there has been either ice and snow all over the streets in my area and I just want to get out and see what improvements have been done. Same goes for my '88 Jog just want to get her out and zooming around again. But Waiting Is The Hardest Part.

This morning I went out and she fired up 3rd try even though it was cold, almost immediately she made a metallic grinding noise from the CVT. I opened her up and took the variator off, after some investigation I found the starter plate was hitting the bendix! I tried to work out why, it took 20 min but when I inspected the CVT after the last catastrophe I had forgot to reinstall the variation spacer Reinstalled and started her up.... NO NOISE! Now to have some lunch to allow the locktight to set and we are off

Yeah woohoo No metallic noise and she started first time! Took her for a quick spin. Run 1 85 main, needle clip in middle (5 slots) and 40 idle. 4.2 miles with a top speed of 37.9 mph. I was varying the throttle throughout. Did a plug check (pic never came out) which I thought was lean so up jetted to a 90 main and dropped idle to a 38. Run 2 90 main, needle 3rd from top, idle 38. Same route managed to nudge 39 mph. Did another plug chop. lean? I didn't have any bigger main jets but I moved the needle clip down to make mid throttle richer. Run 3 90 main, needle 4th from top, idle 38. I hit 40 mph! Did plug chop. Is this still lean? I think it looks better but I've ordered main jets 90-99 so I can keep tuning. I think I my go back to a 40 idle as she was harder to start with the 38 I think. So 12.6 miles today, when my jets turn up I'll do 2 more runs before changing the oil. Any advice on reading plugs would be greatly received. I have read the tech section.

Busy day today. Jets arrived so I changed the main for a 95 and after doing some research I dropped the idle to a 35. Run 1, main 95 needle 4th down idle 35. I experienced some hesitation and slight bogging when going WOT. Run 2 main 93 needle 4th down idle 35 This run seemed better. I had some lunch nd then decided to see what the orange performance CDI would do. RUn 3 main 93 needle 4th down idle 35 No change to reply speak of, she was a bit harder to start but hardly noticeable. Decided to take her for a longish run. Topped up the tank to almost full and set off. Long run. Main 93 needle 4th down idle 35 orange CDI. Unfortunately it was an eventful ride. I ran out of fuel after just over 28 miles! fuel gauge was in the red but not completely gone, guess I should never trust the gauge! I switched off the GPS while I pushed the scoot the half a mile to the petrol station. On the way the rear part of the front mudguard come off. I'll try and repair the bolt hole before I buy a new one. £4 worth of fuel and the tank was full, I turned on the GPS and set off home. So over 32 miles. Not all of it was WOT but there were some big hills I climbed. I averaged mid 30 mph for most of the ride. I know i am a large man but I think more tuning is needed, about 30 miles per tank of fuel is pretty poor!

One thing I'm seeing is a lot of swapping of various parts through the process. I would suggest focusing on one thing. Pick whatever CDI you'd like to use, leave the pilot and needle alone, and focus on the main jet... which it looks like maybe the 90 was the best from your results. Once you decide on a main jet, then I usually tune the idle mixture and speed. Then I work on the needle setting to give good throttle response and smooth part throttle cruising. If I change the needle settings around then I'll readjust the idle mix one last time. Main thing is, stick with a change at a time.
Regarding the fuel economy, check for leaks and check your float height. If the float height is off the the whole tuning process may have to be redone.

I think I am going to replace all of the fuel pipes, filter and petcock. They look old anyway and I can rule out poor connections leaking. Unfortunately I won't be able to do this till January. The float appeared to be working correctly when I cleaned the carb but I'll check again. Thanks for the help.

Ok so now I've settled in back at work I managed to find myself with some time free to work on the scoot. These these things arrived in the post. After i drained the fuel, I set about replacing the fuel system piece by piece. Remove a tube, measure, cut and install. Slow and steady. The new tube next to the old. Same internal diameter but the old tube is just a bit thicker All finished before lunch. I have enough tubing to replace the vacuum system which will be a job for another day. I have missed working on my scoot.

After the morning on the fuel system I took the exhaust off to check if I had a leak. I'm guessing by the black area I have a small leak. Upon closer inspection it's safe to say that the flange should be straight! There is a definate gap! I read somewhere on this forum (sorry I can't remember where or by who) about grinding the flange flat. I heated and straightened as best I could before breaking out the imitation dremel. I took my time gain and think it looks much better. I haven't refitted the exhaust as I'm going to pick up some spring washers tomorrow.
