Cleaned the rest of the plastic pieces and metal parts. All layed out drying in the sun. Next I adjusted the valves. Intake .003 exhaust .004 Cam looks level to me. Next I slowly and methodically put the scoot back together. I don't think it looks too bad Tried to kick it over............ It took a few tries but the scoot fired into life! Woo hoo Went down the road and back, can't wait to go for a long ride. Had to put the scoot back in the garage as off out for a family dinner

So I took the scoot to the shops this evening. Very Low throttle it coughs/stumbles but clears when more throttle applied. Idle is smooth and stable. as I approached the shop rolling to a stop the scoot dies. Ok I think, I nip in the shop and when I return the scoot won't start! I think it's a fuel issue. Going to have a look after work tomorrow night. I was soo close to having a working scoot.

sounds like something clogging a jet. Clean the carb real good

Stripped the carb and cleaned with carb cleaner. Managed to get the scoot started, I need to tune the carb. I kept the same setting for when the scoot ran well, 90MJ, needle clip lowered 1 space and the idle jet that came with the carb. The scoot sets off ok but when you let off the throttle, allow the scoot to slow and then reapply the throttle the engine coughs 3 times before kicking in. I managed to turn the air/fuel screw all the way in and the idle increased and sounded better. So plan is to put in the lowest numbered idle jet, raise the clip back to the middle and install an 85MJ. I'll change 1 think at a time and take a short ride to test. I hate carb tuning but at least it's not painting!

Kick start lever arrived in the post So I fitted it Adjusted a/f screw out just over half a turn and went round the block. Scoot seems to run ok, I still have stock idle and 90 main jets installed. More carb tuning required till the scoot is running sweet.

Thanks, there are still some imperfections and bits that need work, but from where the scoot began I am happy with how far it has come. Now I just need to tune the carb and CVT and then get on the speed list.

Carb tuning. Replaced the unmarked idle jet with a 38. Engine starting become easier and seemed fine throughout throttle range. Went for a spin and all was fine to start with but then with no warning, when I let off the throttle and re apply the engine cough/stumbles until WOT is applied. I thought it could be rich mid throttle so returned to the garage and when I pulled up outside the scoot wanted to die to idle. I moved the clip on the needle up 1 slot to lean it out. The scoot would not start. I'm at a loss! I think it might be valve issue. I had set the intake to .003 and the exhaust to .004 using feeler gauges.

went to continue the carb tuning this morning and was greeted with this! Moved the scoot and found it to be fuel, then noticed it was still leaking from the air filter. Stripped the seat to reach and remove the carb. Fuel W's still slowly leaking from the fuel pipe into the carb. Decided the petcock was a contender so replaced with an old one. Fuel stopped leaking. Suckled on the vacuum port to empty the petcock and got a mouth full of fuel!!! confirms the petcock was faulty. Removed the spark plug. One side looks rich nd the other washed away. Removed the intake manifold and found it full of fuel, thankfully I never tried to start the scoot so the combustion chamber was not flooded. Cleaned out all the fuel and reinstalled everything apart from the carb. Now the fuel issue has been fixed I need to start carb tuning AGAIN!!

Since I was starting carb tuning from the beginning I decided to replace the carb with the one that can, etc with the scoot. Both carbs say Keihin on the side but in different styles. I installed the 38 idle jet, moved the needle clip to the middle and the 90 main jet to start as that's what the last carb had. The scoot bogged so bad at WOT I couldn't get out of the car park. Installed an 85 main jet and WOT improved but was still rich with the occasional bog. I dropped the main to an 80 and the idle back to stock. The scoot seems so much better with smaller jets and a different carb. it's like a different scooter! There is still a tiny, tiny, TINY stumble/hesitation around mid throttle but I think I can eliminate that. Put the scoot away and went for a carvery with the family.

Here is a video of part of a test ride I took to the garage after lunch.
I got the action cam (I think it's a knock off of a go-pro knock off) for my birthday. I'm still learning how to use it. I need to angle the camera up slightly. It was raining but I was smiling the whole time.

Looks like the scoot and the cam are working well.

Needed a paper so decided to go for a spin and collect one on the way back. Almost 8 miles from home drive was lost with some weird noise. pulled over and shut off the engine. I was convinced the CVT belt had broken as the engine was still running well Walked the scoot home (all 8 Miles!) and removed the CVT cover. Yep pretty sure it never looked like that when I installed it. Remains of the belt. Variator fan melted. Are these sliders now useless? Plate guides were also destroyed. And the variator will need replacing. BUT the engine was running well.

One thing I'd plan on is a Bando or Gates belt (Bando IMO). No knock offs or no name stuff. Sliders look done in one pic. In another it looks like some aren't that bad.
