So I fitted a cheap ebay 80cc (72cc) bbk. I used the guide on this forum and had no problems, or so I thought.... I also fitted an exhaust www.ebay.co.uk/itm/49cc-50cc-Chinese-Scooter-Exhaust-System-Kit-Muffler-Silencer-Honda-GY6-Engine-/191426283084?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2c91e5464cand a Chinese cone in filter. The install went fine. She was difficult to start post procedure but I expected that. When she did start she ran really bad and started bogging when throttling above 50%. I changed the main jet from a 90 to an 85, better but still bogging so I dropped it again to an 80. This sorted the bogging but she was really slow and low on power. I put her to bed for the night and did some research. On this forum I think I read that someone had installed their cam 1 tooth off, the following day I checked and I had done the same. I set the cam properly and could feel such a difference. I got her out a few days later to take her for a break in ride, but couldn't get her started, I trouble shot using this forum but no luck. I think the starter motor has gone and the kickstart was broken when I got her. I've order both to be replaced. I've also ordered compression test kit as I figure I will need one during the future trouble shooting. I did notice oil on top of the piston so I think the rings aren't gapped properly so a set of them are coming aswell, now I have feeler gauges. just waiting on the postman now!

At the same time as the bbk install I purchased an impact wrench. My intention was to upgrade the variator, clutch and belt as a squeak/whine could be herd when pulling off. I purchased a performance clutch, which as far so I can tell by looking at it appears stock but painted black/orange. It took me ages to get the nut off the clutch I'm replacing the stock contra spring with a 1500rpm. The vairiator came with 8g rollers but I purchased some 6g Dr pully sliders to install I wanted a keeler belt but ordered the wrong size so I went with a straight replacement.
When she did run on the new set up, there was no squeak and the takeoff was better but at this time I can't tell if it's due to bbk or CVT!

Since this upgrade and subsequent failings I have learnt the wonderful advice: Only upgrade one thing at a time so you can see the results!!!

Good fun! Seems that after adding the cone filter you'd need to upjet as they flow more air than stock air box. More air = more fuel needed.

Niz, I upjetted from a 78 to a 90 but experienced bogging at 50% throttle and up so dropped to 80 to cure it. I think this maybe due to having the cam set one tooth off correct! I have rejetted back to an 85 as I don't want to be lean and am just waiting on some parts to trial the set up. Looks like I won't have everything till Monday moring now.

So all my parts turned up today. I spent the morning changing the top 2 piston rings, which I checked the gap of using the calculator in the tech section and installing the new starter motor and kick start gear. Then I just had to put her back together. After last time I made sure the cam was properly aligned. Triple checked the valve gap (I'm learning). Once all the panels were back on I attached the battery and tried to start her. It took about 10min but eventually she roared into life. I grabbed my lid and jumped on her for a spin. I managed 200 meters before a metallic tapping suddenly started and then became some horrendous noise, I thought I had killed the engine. Walking the scoot back I was convinced I had killed her. Thinking about it the noise seemed to come from the CVT. I took the cover off and found this: My Vairiator nut had come loose and the plastic cooling fan had escaped from its housing! I couldn't see any damage so I reinstalled everything using blue locktight and allowing my impact wrench to 'thunk' the nut back on at least 20 times. I also removed the clutch nut and did the same, I wouldn't want that coming loose... That was the end of my riding, 200 meters but she did start! Now I have to wait till Wednesday to see if she will start again so I can take her for a ride.
