One thing I'd plan on is a Bando or Gates belt (Bando IMO). No knock offs or no name stuff. Sliders look done in one pic. In another it looks like some aren't that bad. I have heard the brand Bando a lot on this forum. I managed to find this on ebay. Should arrive Thursday. As soon as the rest of the stuff arrives I'll post pics.

So the postman brought me some stuff I went to fit it today and noticed some oil around the engine. Stripped off the plastics, intake and cam chain tensioner. Looks like the cam chain tensioner bolt hole nearest the intake port has stripped. Plugged both holes with a rag. Now waiting for the postman to bring me a helicoil kit to try and fix the thread. One day the scoot will run without problems for a long period of time. One day.....

After a heavy weekend at a friends stag night I decided to fix the scoot. I covered the cam chain tensioner hole with some tape fitted the other bolt and used a ruler to make sure the drilling and taping would be level. First I drilled the whole and as most of the threads have been stripped it was easy and only a small amount of metal was removed. Next it was time to tap the hole. I tapped a little (1 turn then a quarter back andown repeat) and then removed the tool to clean it of metal bits. Unfortunately I don't know my own strength!!! I tried to remove it but couldn't, so I ended up removing the engine from the scoot. If you look closely you can see the tap tool still in the whole! Depressed I went in for a coffee and ended up buying a replacement bbk of eBay. It should be easier to fit now the engine is removed, just have to wait for it to arrive nd find time to fit it.

That sux!!! but now you'll have time to try and get the tap out and have an extra jug lying around.

Sorry to say this, but I'm glad I'm not the only one that has had to re-tap something on the scooter so important. Good luck the second time around!

So a lot happened in a short space of time.
My new cylinder and piston arrived in the post and were duly installed with no problems. I fitted the new variator and belt that arrived some time ago and cleaned the clutch. The belt was difficult to install but after pushing it as far into the clutch as I could it slipped on! I then cleaned the carb as the throttle/butterfly valve was sticking a little, all done I started the scoot up and went for a spin. On a side note after fitting the new cylinder and piston I was able to start the scoot using the electric start, something I had not been able to do since fitting the BBK. I went for a spin down the road variating the throttle position and using the engine braking to slow the scoot for initial BBK break-in. All was going well the carb had an 80MJ, needle clip in the middle and a stock idle and sounded/felt fine.
That's when it all went wrong.....
Suddenly the throttle stuck wide open, I could move the grip back and forth but the throttle/butterfly valve on the carb was stuck WOT!!! Thankfully I was on a quiet piece of road with a 3 way junction with a large island in the middle just ahead. I thought I could turn around there without putting too much strain on the scoot and ride the half mile home. It was a good plan until I noticed the horse coming down the road where I wanted to turn, I slammed on both brakes managed to limp the scoot round in the middle of the road and headed back the way I had came. I killed the engine just before my house and coasted to a stop. Off came the sticky throttle carb and on went the spare (this is the one I changed for the sticky throttle one as I could not tune it!) Next came 3 hours of trying to tune the carb with no success it boggs at both idle and rich. It is my guess that this carb broken in some way or not machined correctly. It has had a thorough cleaning and blasted with a can of compressed air.
I need a new carb. I am away for the next 3 weeks but when I return I am going to fix and tune this scoot or die trying!
Sorry for the lack of pictures I will fix that soon.

Now that there was a true Adventure Ride! Yes it was and like a true adult I giggled when I realised the scoot was stuck at WOT.

I have found the best thing for cleaning is Chem-Dip carburetor and parts cleaner. When it comes to cleaning carbs. This is the shit. It is a bit pricy around 25.00 dollars but it last forever or so it seems.

Scoot has been off road while I've been away, but now I'm back!!
The new carb needs tuning but before I can do that I have to get the yearly safety check done before I can take it for some tuning runs. I think there is another exhaust leak that I'll try and pinpoint and plug after receiving some advice on the best substance to use.
Safety check booked for tomorrow and fingers crossed I can be scooting by the weekend.

Scoot passed the yearly safety check with no issues! Rode home in the rain, well part of the way home. Past 1/8 throttle the scoot bogged, coughed, stumbled. I think it is running really rich, it was only slighty rich yesterday. What do you guys think?

Water in the air filter, running rich, or maybe ignition related because of the moisture.

Water in the air filter, running rich, or maybe ignition related because of the moisture. I dried the scoot and made sure I had no water in the system. Started straight away but still could not rev as it just bogged badly. Pulled the plug and it was black, running really rich. Changed to an 80mj and the scoot ran smooth and we'll but I was concerned about running lean so I put an 85mj in. It runs but has a little cough, stumble and is not as smooth as the 80mj. I need to get some new sparkplugs so I can do an accurate plug check on the 80mj. How lean can you run a scoot before engine damage becomes a likely hood?

I took the scoot to the petrol station to fill up with 97 octane fuel. It was about a 5 mile round trip. I stayed WOT for the last couple of hundred meters home. I pulled the plug: I think this is still running rich. I wiped the plug clean. I decided to fit an 80mj. As I finished putting the scoot back together my family returned home. So I started the scoot to check I had put it back together correctly and then put it away in the garage. Tomorrow will be the test ride on the way to work.
