I think with the heat gun its melting the top layer and mixing the top faded layer with the underneath layer

Works pretty good, but if the piece you are working on has texture, it will take the texture away and make it smooth. I use it as a last resort. There are plenty of videos on youtube about it as well.

Ok, so I made some serious progress today on the scooter. I ended up running the high beams & main beams onto 1 connector so they would be running together at all times, got my headlights tail lights and brake lights operational, and also got the whole scooter reassembled besides my freshly painted panels. Took her for a rip to re-tune the cvt and boy did I miss her!!

This is what the scoot looks like, I love the silver and black mix. I don't think I'm gonna ruin it by throwing red on it. All that's left to paint is the wheels and the handlebar panel. currently looking for some upgrade parts and analog guages

Havent done much at all to the scoot, I replaced the brake line today, and also received the speedo dash assembly from fox yesterday I got from the "Karma Thread", thanks again brother! This thing is in mint mint condition, right now the scoot is all assembled and I'm getting ready for a test ride and see my top speed! I have an interview tomorrow at the airport with Pemco World Air Services and I'm praying I get the job cuz it's a lot more money than I'm making now!

Today was a very very sad day for me!! On my way to an appointment, I started to hear a rattling noise, and speed starting to decrease drastically! Full throttle was doing 40-45Mph! But I was running late and so close to my destination! Then all of a sudden a hear a super loud rattle and all of a sudden I have engine at full throttle and not turning the tire. I push the scoot for about 5 minutes, get to my appt 15 minutes late, and when I got out I took the cvt apart to inspect that first before I assume I blew something else up. I open it up, and notice a bunch of small black rubber pieces fall out, boom belts shredded. I took the variator off to see if it was my crank, not my crank. But noticed my variator is more than likely shot!! H

It looks like the fixed half should be replaced, because it appears that the woodruff key is able to move and not lock it into position now. Why is the variator shot though? From the little area that's rough near the center? If that's why, just sand it a bit to smooth it out. Some of us have filed and sanded variators much more dramatically than that on purpose.

I do remember that when putting the fixed half back on the other day, the belt seemed too wide but I'm not too sure why. I had a tough time getting the half on the crank and the kick start piece was even harder... I had to lightly tap it with a socket and hammer... I'm guessing that with the belt shredding, left the fixed half with too much play on the threads and just bounced around and ruined it. The woodruff key was shattered as well, broken at every notch! So far I plan on buying a new fixed half, new vari glides as the new ones I just bought got damaged in this event and also a woodruff key. I have a spare belt, 788-17-28. Width is still at 16.41, is this the size I should be running ?

Just wanted to double check with you, these are the glides that work on the Hoca Performance vari right? www.partsforscooters.com/151-37-Slide_piece_qmb139?sc=34&category=132709&whence=

Those should be the right glides/guides/bushings or whatever. 788-17-28 should work. 16.4mm isn't too bad.
It sounds like you may have damaged the splines on the crank a bit. Inspect everything before it goes back together. If anything doesn't seem right, stop and look it over until you figure out why.

I'll inspect very closely before installation of new parts. I've got to talk to the money woman and get approval of the new parts. Not looking forward to this because she wanted me to sell the scooter before I got it! Lmfao!!
