I am about to pull the trigger on an order but want to check with you guys first.
As the title says Polini Hi-speed vs Polini Hi-speed Evolution Variator. Price is close so not really an issue. Starter gear has been already removed few months ago so also not an issue. Besides the roller weight sizes 16x13 vs 19x15.5 what are the pro and cons?

If the 9 roller variator is one of those, my advise is not to get it. I had so much trouble with one that I gave it away. HATED it.

Both are 6 roller types. Yeah, I heard about the troubles with the 9 rollers. The question which of the 2? I have to pull the trigger on the order before the sales expire. Since more then 1 hour I am scanning the internet for any useful info or comparison but with no success. The Polini website doesn't list the Evolution R02 Variator, no clue why. Maybe troubles with it?

I had the ceramic coated Stage6 OR and didn't like it either. Best belt shredder money can buy. I sold that one to my buddy and he still uses it and thousands of miles later it's not so dramatic at chewing them up, but still bad as far as I'm concerned. Just sayin.

Thanks but I am not looking to buy a Stage6 nor a Malossi Multivar. I want to buy a Polini and need help to decide. Always decisions make... Thus far I know that one has larger rollers then the other and the larger Variator can not have a starter. Another minus point is that I cannot get 19x15.5 rollers that easy here. They sell them but just not many to choose from and a bit $$. Currently I am tending more towards the normal Hi-Speed with 16x13 rollers but if you or anyone else tells me that the 19x15.5 is worth it then so be it.

I'd wait on some more votes, or input. I've never used either so I don't know if one is better than the other, or not.

I have no experience with these and have never paid much attention to Polini variators. Just from looking at them on a few sites, it appears that the Evo is an overrange variator. One site says it's designed to work with the stock belt since it uses the stock rear pulley, but also says its' oversize. I didn't see much detail in a few fairly quick searches like actual OD. I would guess that the Hi Speed is more of a bolt on replacement with improved performance and the Hi Speed Evolution is an OR. Perhaps comparable to Malossi's MultiVar line where you can get the standard with 16x13s and OR versions with 19x15.5s. From experience with those (or actually a bunch of clones of the standard and the real OR) I would go with the OR if you can deal with using a kick start.

The evo should probably be used with polini's OR pulleys. The normal one is probably for stock pulleys. Im guessing the non evo variator is the successor of the old speedcontrol i have.

Lucass2TSo if I have a stock size rear pulley I should go with the normal Hi-Speed and If I have a large rear pulley as you have 122.20mm or Malossi OR then go with the Evo?

I like my Malossi OR vari better with the stock sized rear pulley (I do use at least a straight TD though) than the other variators. It may not be ideal like a total OR setup, but still beats the rest. You can see more on this in my OR alternatives vids. The only thing I've found about the Malossi OR is that it bypasses low revs whether you like it or not. It should be a good thing for an engine that likes to rev. I may be missing out on a little with the 100cc stuff I use it on... but still it does so well and it's been so much more reliable than the smaller ones that I keep using it. I've prob put more miles on my 1 OR variator than any 2 or 3 of the more standard MultiVar designs and it hasn't broken a guide bushing or severely worn down anything but weights yet. It's quite a robust design. Again, no idea how much (if any) of this will apply to the Polini.

Does they have the same diameter? Or is the Evo larger? Can't find any useful info.

The only thing I've found about the Malossi OR is that it bypasses low revs whether you like it or not. Can you explain this a bit more. Low revs? It tends to jump to the tuned RPM quite quickly. On the big engines, there's a good bit of torque below the peak power and it really never gets used with the OR. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but if you like creeping away from stops and barely revving the OR isn't great for it and I had better results there with the more standard versions. Could be something with the setup, but I've tried as much as 14 or 15g rollers and it still never wants to sneak away like the others. Again, it still works so well that I keep using it. I think in most cases this would be a 100% pro, I'm just so used to 90cc+ low rev stuff that I notice it. Do you have the link to the video of yours? Vids are here and there is also a PDF with times and setup info for a quick comparison. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/9923/minarelli-range-pulley-alternatives-videoDoes they have the same diameter? Or is the Evo larger? Can't find any useful info. I can't find that either. I know one seller listed the Evo as "oversize".
