Genuine 8" chinese "bobber" headlight, takes an H4 35/35 bulb. The old headlights were twin H4 16/16 bulbs so the load should be the same and I'm betting I'll have better illumination. Got the taillight and turn signals wired up, used the old plug, got rid of a lot of slop' and all the splices are soldered and shrink wrapped.

Pretty much waiting on parts at this point, a new stud and gasket for the engine, turn signals, throttle grip and the right hand run/kill switch. Sitting out in the driveway, already getting second looks. Pull out in front me now and say you couldn't see me now moron.

Finished the wiring tonight except for the front turn signals, the good news is, I hooked up the battery, all the lights work correctly, solenoid actuates etc. All I need now is a stud and a gasket and I believe we're ready to see if she fires ")

I have been waiting for this to come to full fruition as I own a 2012 taotao. Can't wait to be able to do the same to mine based on your results.

At some point during this fiasco, it became clear that if I was going to do this right, it would be back to my original plan of a complete tear down over winter, have the frame blasted and coated etc, then we found the bent triple tree, I'm hesitant to try ordering one based on how many subtle variations there seem to be, so currently hoping to pickup a blown scoot and rob it of it's frame and front end.

Love the little caster wheel thingy you have made to move it about with no back wheel on genius!!!!

Actually I didn't make that, it's rolling stand for plants that I use to move my big tropicals around, I zip tied it to the motor mount and it works great. Got the wiring all done, eliminated a lot of wire, got rid of the main plug and hard soldered everything, still waiting on replacement turn signals, run/kill switch, engine parts and throttle grip, but once I get the engine back together I'll be ready to start it and take a test ride. Don't need turn signals by law, just tail/brake and headlights and I want to get started on the break in.

Hooked up the battery briefly, everything checks out. Harness was a mess, must be used on multiple models with wiring for them all. They also like to change colors mid loom...

So the day started off well enough... We even had a wedding Then to top it off it even started right up, which was bad, because on the first test ride a car ran a stop sign... Yep, gonna be sore in the morning, the scoot survived with a broken taillight and a broken turn signal and some good paint gouges, too sick about it to take pictures, but I slapped a temporary tailight on it and got on with the break in. Put about 30 miles on it in town, start and stop, never took it above 25, then I started making a few longer runs on the through streets. 0-25 in a half block, 30 by the end no problem, hits 35 in about two blocks and holds it pretty easy, did one WOT run and it hit 40 on flat ground, GPS and logged. Idles fast, needs a new throttle grip too. But man when I cracked the gas, instead of the waaaahhhhhhhh slowly winding up, the clutch kicks in solid, sounds like a manual actually and I get real acceleration even with my 200 pound carcass on it. I can't believe I could get that much gain from a $25 kit.

That's sure not how we'd like to hear that your first ride went, but on the bright side you seem to be mostly alright. At least this is a naked build so you didn't have a bunch of fairings to bust up.
