I might as well forget riding for awhile. I went out in the truck to see what roads around me are like. Much worse than I thought. I knew the main roads were clear, but they are 50MPH speed limits so I have to ride the shoulder. The shoulders have snow and ice on them. I figured the back roads around me should be clear by now so I could ride them... not so much. It doesn't really look like it in the pic, but that's not the road I'm traveling on. That's a sheet of packed snow covered with thick ice. In this area it was probably 6-8" deep with lots of big ruts and bumps. As you can see, it's kind of a 1 lane road since they didn't do much plowing. I was gonna get out and take a better pic for you guys, but I didn't wanna waste any time with nowhere to go if another car comes. If it's not like that, it's like this... I was doing 10-15MPH on lots of these spots and even pushing up to 15 got a little "uncomfortable" at times. What melts from the sun just forms a sheet of ice at night, then melts again, then ices, and so on.

Man oh man am I glad I'm in Cali. I was stationed at Fort Lee Va. for around 3 months in 1987 (Jan thru March) and there was one stretch where they had us shoveling snow for 48 hours straight with no sleep and MRE's for food. We'd shovel the front of the Generals quarters and then move to another area for 15 minutes and have to come back and shovel the Generals area again. I can't see why anyone would want to live in an ice box for 1/2 a year. I guess I'm just a lightweight candy-ass. ;D
I'm glad your scooter is back together. Smart not to take it out in the snow.

My hand is doing much better. It still hurts from time to time and I don't seem to have all the strength back in it, but most of the time it doesn't give me much trouble now. I can work the throttle and brakes without pain now.
Trust me, I ain't goin' on that crap. If I'm starting to have trouble controlling a truck at 15MPH on bumpy ice, I'm not about to try the scoot out. I've definitely got the winter riding blues, but I woulda been riding whenever it wasn't snowing if not for a bail of hay. lol That's what sucks, I'm not a fair weather rider so I can't stand sitting this out.
It's really not that bad here most of the time. This season we've had over 60 inches of snow so far, but there are plenty of years when I don't think we see over 6". It also averages 50 degrees here this time of year, not 30s like it has been. I kind of enjoy a change of seasons and getting to see 1 snow storm per year. I'm not a fan of hot weather so I couldn't really see myself enjoying some of the warmer areas too much in the summer. I've lived here (actually within 1/8 mile) all of my life, and I like it.

Don't worry, I'm a light weight candy ass myself! I've never even seen snow except when it snowed here in 77 & 83. (And have no desire too) It snowed in Florida this year but not where I'm at luckily.

I just got back from my first ride since Dec 3rd. It was very brief because so many roads around here still have snow and ice on them, but at least it did feel good to ride again. Notes : - Scooter steering feels really sketchy after a long absence of riding. I spent the first mile or two swerving around inadvertently. - My speedometer isn't working. - I forgot how cold a 30 degree night is on a scooter. - My roller weights are too heavy and/or I have a carb tuning issue. - The new handlebars are comfy. I tried on my helmet with the new smoked visor (used clear for the ride). I'm likin' it. Looks much better than seeing my ugly mug. lol My version of community service.
