I didn't take a before pic, but there were some deep gouges on the clutch end of the belt cover, ground and filed them to scratches, filled with JB Weld and sanded smooth. Thinking VHT wrinkle finish at this point.

Since I have the whole winter, I decided to try and salvage the right hand skirt, the other where I had my spill is toast, but $40 bucks saved for a couple bucks worth of epoxy is a good thing. The gouges are one issue, the rim on the top and bottom are also cracked. Scrubbed clean and sanded, ready for the epoxy, JB Weld Plastic Bonder. I didn't know how thick it was as a filler so I bought plastic bond putty as well as a back up. As it turned out, didn't need the putty. Got 2-3 thin layers over the areas I needed, giving it good overnight cure and then time for more sanding. Got the body covered ready for sanding as well, and I'm going to see if it will work to repair some screw posts. Whatever doesn;t work, we'll just replace but it's worth a try, some glue and some time.

The JB Weld plastic bonder worked out well, it filled well, sands about as easy as the plastic and strength wise, even on the edge of the panels that were cracked, the entire area flexes with no sign of weakness at the cracks at all. Got them rough sanded, bit of touch up with a skin coat and finsih sanding and it's ready for paint. Literally just saved well over $100 in panels for $7 tube of JB Weld.

Got the belt cover, instrument cover and air box cover finished, VHT wrinkle paint. Belt cover turned out perfect, the plastic stuff has some flaws but good enough.

Out of the blue and into the black... definitely the correct choice, just the first coat before wet sanding convinced me of that. Since the air box and belt cover are black as well now, while I have everything apart, I'm going to paint the swing arm black and the back half of the engine black, go black on the calipers front and rear and and candy apple red satin on the wheels. Digging around the net for a set of whitewalls that will fit, just to go old school.

I be living in Iowa, and it may or may not be on CL this spring ") First coats on the fender and cowl, my wife's green light got me energized and she just wanted to kick back and breathe. This is actually a bit more shine than I wanted, but there's two more coats and wet sanding between now and the finished product.

Got the first coat on everything that's getting the satin black treatment that isn't being replaced, which would be the front cover and left skirt, need to order those still. Brought them in the house to sit a week for a full cure so I don;t have to keep the shop warm just for that, and then it's time for a wet sand with 800 grit and a 2nd coat, I anticipate 3 coats total with a final finish by wet sanding 3000 grit for a dull sheen.

Good job on the resto. My research over the years finds that the 250s is the fastest 250 scoot available (82 mph as I remember). The dual front discs are a big plus as well. As far as touring goes 65 - 70 mph all day probably wouldn't' be unreasonable.

Top end flat ground on this one when I bought it was about 76 GPS, but it will definitely 60-65 all day and still have some power for hills with everything stock. I suspect when I get the sliders and new belt installed I'll get a few more smiles out of it.
Got no complaints about the brakes at all and they've had a couple deer tests too.
I don't know if this is the fastest 250, I would think the fuel injected models would have to be a bit faster, but I think if I got it some air since it runs rich I could squeeze a few more smiles out of it

Well, the belt is the original and worn to the point it would interfere with the shifting and give a good squeak once in awhile on tale off. Rollers are original ass well, some flat spots, going with sliders per 90GTVert's recommendation, the next issue I need to address is the exhaust stud, and that requires I either a) lie on the cold concrete floor, or b) let the right half of my brain share with the left and implement a strange but feasible idea, which at this point is just that.

Get a Harborfreight lift, on sale at $329 this weekend. Combine it with a rolling stool and it will get you off the floor. My knees wouldn't be crap if I had bought one earlier in my life.
