Weird, just the other day the Ape was rattling away. What i think is the crank bearing. As most of you know my friend was stopped riding my Aprilia with me on Saturday. He dosnt have a scoot and we needed a ride so i figured what the heck it still runs fine, ride it and if it gets REAL bad or looses power let me know. So we set off for a ride and i was rattling away. About 15-20 miles later i pulled up beside him to see if it was still doing good and he said hell it quit rattling! WTF, it did! Im not sure whats going on in there but sure enough it wasnt making the noise anymore. We chuckled as i thanked him for fixing it :cheers: ! Now on to the starter! Heres some pics of it next to a Minarelli starter. The Aprilia (Dutaci) is on the right. You can see that the Minarelli appears to be built allot better. Kinda dont make sense seeing as how the Aprilia DiTech,s are electric start only :stumped: . Seems to be just different enough! I cant interchange anything on these. But maybe the brushes with some work :bfg:

If the armeture isnt cooked all thats needed is a brush set and some cleanup.How do the Ape brushes look?How bout the brush springs?

Well thats the good news 190 ;D! When i took the starter back apart i saw that it was just as dirty or worse on the armature and brushes than before. I cleaned them up again (real good this time) and bent the brush mounts so they would push harder on the armature. Put it all back together and back on the Ape and she spins like new for now! Fired right up so i went for a nice lil 25 MPH ride with a blocks length of cars behind me . It was nice tho ! I think i can get a set of brushes that will match up pretty good from the hobby shop for $2-3 or so. That helped allot to be able to get the Ape running. The darn knocking noise is so faint now you can barely hear it unless you really listen for it, weird . I even was thinking maybe something is(was) messed up with the airpump? Its driven off the crank and noise travels through the whole motor on these things so it makes sourcing the noise difficult sometimes. I couldnt even get it narrowed down when it was at its loudest and i was using a mechanics stethoscope. Its quiet again and runs really good! Hope it stays that way for awhile! Hey, wonder how good the mileage is at 25MPH everywere

I've tried using a stethoscope when T2 was knocking and for a noise in the SunL. I find it to be useless for these small engines.

The mileage is worse at 25MPH then it was going the speed limit everywere :banghead: ! Im pretty sure its because the CVT is between "gears" and is holding the revvs.?. Never thought i would be de-tuning my scooter :stumped:

Heavier rollers will probably do the trick. I suppose if you want an interesting project you could see just how much mileage you can get by playing with the transmission and ignition timing and such. It's a shame the 4T doesn't run. That sucker would probably get great mileage at 25MPH.

Shes knocking again, but louder then ever. Gotta pull the cover to verify the crank bearing but im betting thats what it is. Its nasty now ! Come on Tomos!

Is it possibly the air compressor?Its on the CVT side isnt it?
