I wanted to start a post with all the different 2 and 3 wheelers I work on from week to week. some of them are cool and unusual, come are boring run of the mill. but non the less they're special to me because ive wrenched on them, and sometimes bled by them. ill be adding to this when I can. when I remember to take pics of them. that's the hardest part. lol first submission id like to present is a 79' piaggio P125X that a customer found on offer up at a good price. it had been sitting in a venice beach garage for 25 years of its life and had not been ran, touched or moved in 15 years. the petcock was clogged the carburetor gummed up. clutch was now stuck. it had been parked because of a short that would blow the fuse intermittently. the short I found by dumb luck while repairing the brake light. the signal wire on the switch had been pinched by PO last time he had messed with something under head light cover. I shrink wrapped it and rerouted and reconnected it to the switch. the rear switch was also disconnected and switch was gummed up not making a connection. cleaned the switch connected it and put it back together. I cleaned the carburetor and petcock, replaced the hoses, installed a new spark plug and it fired right up with some new gas. to free the clutch I popped it in second gear with clutch pulled. it lunged forward and died. clutch freed up, that problem solved. I need to take it by my painters to get an estimate, but my jobs done. it starts first kick and shifts through the gears smooth and positive. no more blown fuses. also replaced tail light with LED and customer wanted the clear turn lenses installed

for a 40 year old scooter it rides pretty nice. I was surprised. and I like that its a 2 stroke shifty. its hard to smoke a cigarette and pull clutch and shift though. snapped 2 cigs before I figured it out... lol

I totally agree Jimmy. even though the red looks like a shitty add on, it was done years ago too the silver looks original though. id leave the paint lower it and put a bbk and a pipe on it and roll hard on that bish!!!! im really digging it even though its just a 125. I might have a trade for that vespa gtx300 I just got. the trade is an 09 vespa et4 with malossi cvt and exhaust plus an 04ish? metropolitan. 800 miles all original. im gonna see the owner of this 79 is interested in either of those and see what I can work out.....

Mind you I roll my own so they bend rather than snap like tailor made cigs

todays entry are of a tryped, and the scooter the tryped owner gave me. my neighbor stopped by because he always saw scooters out front when driving by. he had this 3 wheeled rikshaw/moped/ 2 seater thing that he wanted to get running again now that he brought it back from his mexico home. this thing was rough. i had to rewire the whole thing, there were no switches ignition hand controls. i used Yamaha controls, a spree ignition switch, gyro front signals, and he brought me LED trailer lights for the rear lights. he wanted blinkers horn brake lights and a keyed ignition/ kill switch. i wired it all up with a 12v battery he had and i installed that in his under seat tub. well first try found out the tomos a3 wires its kill switch by grounding the coil in run and open circuit to kill. had to fix that. the old head light was 6v. i never thought a bout it till it blew because of the 12v batter owner wanted installed. doh. so now im searching for a 4-4.5" 12v replacement. if anyone has an option idea, im all ears. this leads to the next issue, a tomos a3 is 6v charging so im researching 12v conversions now. good thing the 12v battery is huge over kill and all but the burnt head light are LED now. its been going 2 months now on its first charge! i tried to clean its carb that had a weird throttle where closed was choke/ start- part throttle was idle. with a odd designed slide. so i junked that and installed a trusty walbro wt. i couldn't get it to start, it would get close but never catch. after inspection i found the piston installed backwards and the flywheel side seal was bad. after i replaced the seal and rotated piston, it fired up first time. ran pretty good, but was so damn slow. maybe 10mph? and the pedals only worked backwards to start the engine. they wouldn't catch in forward direction to engage the pedal assist. soooo i pulled off the trans cover and found out it was a 2 speed. the second speed gear had sheared all of its teeth off. the sprocket gear ratcheting teeth were all rounded and slipping when pedaling. found the gears at treatland and ordered them during this last 18% sale. i installed the second speed gear yesterday and now its a little faster with the new high gear. waiting till owner tears down to sand blast and powder coat the frame and forks to pull motor and split the cases to install the sprocket pedal gear. splitting the cases are the only way i can see how to get the gear out? any one know a trick for this on a tomos a3? so its running ok for now till owner takes that next beautifying step. owner rides by on the weekends smiles waves or beeps the horn.. im happy to see it brings him and his kids enjoyment. that and the money makes it all worth the work. lol as partial payment he gave me an 85 riva/jog that i posted some pics of in another thread. ill tell its story next hears some pics of this odd little duck for you to enjoy. the owner called it a triped and i had to correct him as its a tryped. its trying to get up that hill. its trying to be a scooter or rikshaw/ moped mess. its trying to be/ do a lot of things. he liked it sooooo heres tryped:

Dude, I swear that for as many weird projects I find, you have that many more. Your neighborhood is a total scooter Bermuda Triangle!
You really should drop a Honda Cub motor on that thing.

Perhaps Lucass2T might know if you have to split the cases to install the sprocket pedal gear? It's a Tomos a3. and SMALL CC TEK had an exhaust for one of these a while ago. Make it even more dangerous!

Dude, I swear that for as many weird projects I find, you have that many more. Your neighborhood is a total scooter Bermuda Triangle! You really should drop a Honda Cub motor on that thing. i don't know where they come from or why they find me? lol. that's why i called this thread misfit toys. i rarely get normal ones on my door step. theyre usually push out of a moving truck, like here fix this... JK. its like i attract the odd and unusual " i got no place else to go" type. its ok though, i speak their language. fix them up and send them on their way with a new lease on life! i like that. I like the cub engine idea. i do have that running 63' honda trail 55.... i couldn't tear apart a running bike though a 125 lifan would make either of these so much more fun and dangerous!!!! great idea. the tryped is already weird to ride with its tiller style handle bars mounted in between the 2 riders. i joke how if we rode it to the bar and got pulled over, the cop would have to flip a coin on who to breathalyze.. i wasn't driving he was! nooo he was driving, ect. im trying to convince him to get a pipe and a BBK. we shall see.
