So I have a couple questions... What was this guy on when he did this? Did he use a drill on this thing? Poor air screw is completely mangled as is every other screw on this carb. That's very methy

Alright! Naraku cylinder in place! Used the Adly head since it seemed to be much better quality than the Yamati that I had on hand. Compression is likely to be a bit higher, but should be alright. Also the scooter is back to being in one piece. Now I have to just make sure the electro lines up the way it's supposed to, and give the braking system a thorough checking. I know for a fact the back drum brakes are fine, but the front hydraulic system is suspect. Once all of that is in order, it's time to fire this girl up and see if she rolls.

I forgot to mention something that the finish on that Naraku cylinder was pretty rough. Always a good idea to check the ports. A lot of rough edges that could possibly snag a ring. Went after them with a round file. Didn't take hardly any effort to smooth out. Sure a lot of you all know about it, but just in case, I thought I would mention it.

The pipe has arrived. I went with the Stage 6 Street Exhaust. Never worked with Stage 6 products, so I thought this would be an easy intro. Not a bad pipe per se. Has a few dings and scratches from sitting in the warehouse. A little bit of surface rust as well. Kinda heavy, but seems solidly built. The connector is a little weird, and I wasn't prepared for the 2 piece construction. Should be an interesting install with the Naraku cylinder. First I have to do battle with the restrictor. No obvious welds that I can see, so I'm gonna go with the big screw driver method.

Good luck. I think they only manufacture one universal exhaust. Then have a selection of adaptors to fit each application. Should be a good upgrade.

aeroxbud yeah we'll see how it goes. Unlike Yasuni, Stage 6 really tacks that restrictor in place. Couldn't really budge it with the driver. Rotary tool it is! Lol.

Today, I am duking it out with the carburetor and estimating the jetting for the initial start up. The Yamati originally had a 70 main in there, so considering the upgrade to 70cc and the new pipe, I'm gonna start out with the 20% rule and move it to 84ish (possibly 86) and then work my way from there. There were a couple of surprises with this Leader carb. It's beat up for sure on the outside but it doesn't look like previous owner ever tried to mess with inside. I'm a consider myself lucky considering the beating this thing took. I completely raised the needle. Was surprised to see it had 5 positions vs the 3 on my Adly. The other surprise was the pilot jet. The Adly had a main of 75 to start with a pilot of 17.5. This Yamati was 70 main and unknown pilot. I had the jet, I just couldn't find the numbers on it anywhere. After looking through literature, no real luck. The RX8i is basically the same as the Keeway Matrix and the Vento Triton. Looked up those, but still couldn't get a good handle on pilot size. So, I figure to myself "the main on the Adly was bigger, so the pilot jet was likely bigger as well or maybe just the same. Somewhere around 17.5 , right?" Wrong! WRONG! 😂 The stock pilot in this thing is actually 22.5!!! 😵 My janky smartphone camera saved me from making a terrible mistake. That's nuts!! 22.5 is what I moved the Adly pilot to from 17.5. how on Earth does this thing have a bigger pilot and a smaller main? Well, it is what it is. So going by the 20% estimate, we are moving from 22.5 pilot to ~28. Damn! Good thing I bought a pilot kit with a wide enough range! I'm learning that jets are like rope. Rather have 'em and not need'em than need'em and not have 'em. Alright. Let's see if I can get this girl fired up this weekend!

Pipe is on! I gotta say, the Stage 6 gave me a little trouble but it is.on there. Also got the electrical hooked up and cleaned up. Got just one set of connections to sort out tomorrow and the front brakes. Hitting that impatient phase where I wanna fire it.up, but gotta be patient and work steady. Short cuts lead to long delays, right?

Don't do what I did. With the ET4 I just wanted to ride it once I got it running. I got to the end of the drive before I found out I had no front brake and the back one needed some serious work. Luckily I live on a quiet street and I could turn left and go up hill to slow down.

pinkscoot I totally hear ya and agree on that one! Brakes are the most important part. There's a nice 200 yard long alley right off the drive that I use for a test strip. Only 3 houses before it dead ends into the woods, so no traffic. I will be rolling up and down that thing until I am completely confident in starts and stops. After that, we rolling around the neighborhood, then back to house for further checks. After I accidentally burned up the RT's cylinder just before Xmas ( damned oil pumps), I have become fanatical about safety and maintenance checks.

Can't be too careful. It never hurts to give things like brakes a second look after working on them. I have seen a few times people fitting pads round the wrong way!

1000% agree which is why... heavy sigh... I am trashing this break assembly. I was locked up completely. Took it apart, cleaned it, reassembled it, and it won't hold pressure. Too many air leaks in the line, reservoir, and lever. Even if O.could fix all issues, I can't trust it, so out it goes. On the bright side, this was clearly a replacement part, so finding a new one cheap was easy. Gotta take the wins where I can get 'em. LoL!

It runs! Jetting needs to be adjusted. Definitely too rich from the smoke and sputtering, but it RUNS!
Pilot jet seems right on. She purrs like a kitten at idle. Had to make slight adjust to air screw. Currently at 1 and 3/4 turns. Idle was WAY too high. Turned it down and she ticks right along.
Needle is completely raised 5th notch. Might be able to drop to 4th notch, but I'm gonna fiddle with the main first. She sputters, spits and smokes at wide open. Gonna go down a size or two.
The electrical, on the other hand, is completely screwed up. Turn signals aren't quite working, nor is the brake light. Likely I have something crossed up. The wire colors on the new switches.dont quite match the old. I did manage to hook up the stator, coil, cdi, and kill switch correctly.
I'm gonna trouble shoot all that next weekend. For now, I'm gonna take the win. Hopefully I'll get the jets dialed in tomorrow and get a few test runs in down the alley and maybe around the block.

Oh man! We were going along so well. Busy week and I didn't have time to work on bike during the weekdays. Started in on it today. Got a lot of smoke and sputter, but it clears up here and there. Dropped the main to 82 and lowered the needle one clip. Some of the sputter went away but still there. Figured I would try a few more things with fuel system before I started eyeballing CDI and plug. Well, I never got that far. Suddenly engine starts rattling. I immediately hit kill switch. Go over the engine, nothing appears to be wrong. Fire it back up. No rattle. Working on the mix, notice back wheel won't stop turning. In fact it's spinning faster than it should. Hit the rear brake, can feel tension through the handle. Let go, wheel starts spinning. Do something really stupid and hand stop the wheel. Don't worry, didn't hurt myself. Can feel wheel trying to turn against my palm. Realize it's a transmission problem. Rattle comes back. Let go and hit the kill switch. Now I'm worried. Open up the cover. Variator is fine, belt is fine, but the clutch.... Broken clutch leaf aaaaand... a small pile of shrapnel. Well, we can't go any further now. New clutch pads on the way. Disappointment for sure, but it could have been waaaay worse. At least this happened during testing and not while on the road. That little pile of grapeshot could have done a number on the other transmission, seals or belt, but it didn't. Thank goodness I didn't bind up the wheel and mess up my gears. So, plenty to be thankful for, but still...
