New to scooters and new to the forum. I've been on a recent moped building kick, and my recent project is putting a stage6 R/T 70cc LC kit on a 78 Honda Hobbit. In the process I stumbled across a Stage6 95cc R/T kit that has been discontinued for some time now...so naturally I had to get it! Then I had to find something to put it on... so I just scored an 05 Piaggio Typhoon!
I'm waiting on all the parts to land, but I've got in the works:
Stage6 R/T 95cc LC Kit Stage6 R1200 Exhaust Stage6 R/T Crank (44mm Stroke 14mm pin) Polini High Speed Evolution Variator Stage6 Intake & Reed Kit Malossi Unrestricted CDI Kit Malossi RC-One Variator Cover
My plan here, is if I'm doing a scooter - I'm going to do it right. So if anyone has any pointers or suggestions on these Typhoons I am ready to learn! I'm sure there are well known problem areas and things to look out for so I am all ears, and look forward to sharing the progress as it comes together!

Welcome!
Those sound like fun builds for sure.
LC Hobbit? I don’t think I’ve seen that flavor before.

They are fun indeed! It turns out the old Hobbits have the same stud pattern as these Piaggio Hyper top ends. So with some ingenuity you can convert the LC piaggio kits over! Again that's what spun me into this scooter rabbit hole lol

Nice setup. That ehaust though is designed for a mid-race 70cc and you're building a hyper-race 95cc. You'll have to match the pipe to the cylinder othwerwise you'll risk overheating. The r1200's tailpipe is too restrictive and heat will build up in the engine with a seize as a result.

I actually wondered about the exhaust because there aren't many options for over 70cc. I have a guy that does exhausts and could have the stinger cut off and put in an end bleed bolt to relieve some constant pressure & have a sidebleed stinger installed

Checking with Maxi to see if I can swap over to this: www.maxiscoot.com/en/product/exhaust-2fast-98cc-piaggio-nrg-zip-67907?vctype_id=13Before they ship out. Never really crossed my mind the detriment of running an exhaust designed for a smaller cylinder like that. I wanted to stick with S6 products but 2 Fast makes really similar stuff, and haven't forbid I detonate this S6 kit I'll be replacing it with a 2 fast cylinder

Thats right Lucass, The 86 pipes will work as they are longer, fatter and have larger stingers for the bigger motor builds..

you'll definitely be happy with the 2fast pipe I have a Piaggio lc build 86cc and it does fine with a 70cc 2fast pipe which 8a alot less restricted than a standard 70cc pipe. one thing you will notice on these piaggios is how well the stock cvt set up is , only thing I have changed besides weights and contra spring so far is the clutch and the fixed half, rest of the stock cvt parts hold up rather well.

I can say the transmission as a whole is way more hefty than the bikes I've been building so it's rather exciting! I have plans for a stage6 clutch & bell along with some molassi gears. What belt are people running on these higher HP setups? Is Bando the best option for scooters as well?

And what is a good ignition setup for the 05 Piaggio with lighting coil/power output? I've found a bunch of racing ignition that have no output, but I want lights on this build but also want an ignition curve and need high RPMs on this build!

MVT seems to be the go to if you want any form of charging.
With your setup I would be considering an overrange CVT.

I held back on the iggy for along time, but it was a nessasry component of these type of builds. you can get away with an advance stepped Woodruff key for only so long. I went with the mvt at first but honestly I found out an Infetior product compared to other race ignitions. my two cents . . .

Thanks for the heads up 808 - I am only familiar with HPI ignitions but have heard good things about Seletra. But again I swore not to remove the electronics in this build so it cab actually be driven on the street lmao
Maybe the sites I've looked at are wrong about the pre 2003 requirements? But I know doing the 44mm stroke crank might put me in a position not all ignitions will fit as well?
I agree a performance ignition is absolutely required for any high rpm build. You don't realize it until you upgrade, and then you understand just how huge an impact it has... it took one of my builds from 9k RPM to 12k RPM by the sheer weight savings. Not to mention the ignition curve on these aggressive boxes - they're a MUST of you plan on advancing timing and running high RPM unless you like holes in the top of your pistons lol

You only want to swap to a racing ignition because the stock flywheel will explode at 15k rpm. It won't give you more power, but it makes the bike feel waay snappier. You could swap to a racing cdi on your stock ignition to get a timing curve, works perfectly. But then again that stock heavy flywheel.
