Hello all. I'm new to the site and I'll figure out how to post pictures soon. Maybe when I'm at work tomorrow. Anyway, I'm building a Srada Rx8. Basically a Triton r4. Got the Stage 6 sport pro mkii and dellorto 19 mm to fire earlier. I'm starting with the 70 bbk and carb and then I'll go to the pipe and tranny. I'm also body modding at the same time thanks to this site. All new plastics, paint(flat black). This is my second scoot and I had forgotten how much fun it was.

Welcome to the forum! Here is a link to another RX8 build a few years back; 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/532/96cc-strada-rx8-1e40qmb?page=1The engine is a 90cc case with a one off cylinder and crank, the standard Mina 50-70cc parts dont fit.. Autotech355 used to carry 70cc kits for them, but the best bet would be buy a 90cc crank and cylinder, then you'd have a much better street ride!!

Thanks. I think for now I'll be doing the 70 CC Stage6 that I just put on and then a c16. When not if I blow that up I'll start thinking about strokers. From lurking around a bit I understand you build some pipes. Got anything in mind for me. I'm not committed to the c16 yet.

Have you checked the squish of the new setup? If it's indeed an FM engine with the longer stroke, it could be tight with the piston extending farther up in the bore than a standard 49cc crank. You'd prob notice a lot of room in the cases too if it's an FM, instead of a pretty snug fit that you'd see with a standard 49cc engine bolting on a 70cc.

I did check the squish. I started with the paper base gasket and was somewhere around .85. I got rid of the paper and used a copper and an aluminum and now at .62. Should be good there. It fired and ran last night but not today. It's flooding.

I read in the paper work that came with the cylinder that they reccomended a .06 squish. So I played with gaskets until I got close to that but my compression tester is only reading 120 psi. Any ideas as to why?

At .06mm it should be super high compression. .06mm leaves hardly any room for flex/rock/expansion. .6mm sounds much more reasonable to me.
If you have .06mm squish and 120psi, I'd suspect a failure to seal somewhere or a faulty reading. Could be the tester or tester fitting/seal. Throttle needs to be wide open when testing. Need to make sure the engine is turned over quick enough so I usually e-start a few revolutions then kick it till the gauge stops rising.

My bad. It is .6 not .06. I was working and distracted. I'm home and in the garage now and I get it started with throttle but I have fuel pouring out of the carb while trying to keep it at an idle.

Check the float height.

I will. Sounds obvious. Dahh.

Can someone tell me how and where to measure the floats?

Gotta take the bowl off of the bottom of the carb. Should be able to hold the carb upside down and see if the float is parallel with the ground or body of the carb. This is a stock carb, but same basic idea with the float. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBCzVg4kUN0

Ok I got home tonight and took the carb off. When upside down the floats were level with the base. I put it back together and still have fuel pouring out the carb. It's coming out the small ports in the intake of the carb throttle body.
