So crazy story, but a guy needed to get rid of this scooter asap as he was moving out of his apartment and couldn't take it with him. I traded him for it with a Jet wood lathe.
This scooter does not run, the engine is not seized but...... The owner said he let a friend barrow it who did not put in 2 stroke oil and therefore it not longer runs. The owner said he called a scooter shop and they said (without seeing it) that the whole top end would need to be re-built and would cost $300-$400. He dropped off the scooter yesterday but forgot the key and Title... I am a little skeptical but figure out I can at least part out the scooter if it comes to him scamming me. ANYWAY
I have read that these are some powerful 2 Stroke scooters and figured it would be worth the trade and have this be my winter project. This is a year 2000 Derbi Atlantis (wave?) It says wave on the stickers. The scooter is from Florida and somehow migrated up here to Minnesota. The owner said that the scooter has not run in about a year. (assuming i can trust him and he knows what he is talking about.) I can hear / feel compression and the engine turns when the kick start is kicked. The scooter looks to be in decent shape.
Is the engine number the -0.0G.018.0.454.1 I have seen another person post a newer Derbi, but actually a Piaggio engine in it. This appears to still be a derbi engine, before Piaggio stepped into the scene.
What's your thoughts on my trade? I hope it will pay off. I was told by the owner that he could cruise as 45mph with no problem. My 49cc Minnelli Clone currently only cruises on the flat at 34mph. I'm looking for a scooter for my wife that will come close to keeping up with my Honda 125 Aero (2t) that is being restored currently in my garage.
Is this Spanish engine stronger than the Minnelli clone?
