Disagree:
The stock needle is utter crap, only knows open and close, nothing in between.
I think I ran a ... W13 needle, which was waaaaay pointier and smoother to open half and full.
Needles arent expensive, get a set, fiddle around.
But yes, main jet, MUCHO IMPORTANTE

Which side of the gasket goes which way? Does it it.matter? The arrow on the piston goes toward the exhaust correct?

Ex gasket doesnt matter, cylinder base,,line it up for best fit..Tip,a thin film of any brand RTV silicone sealant (let it dry before installation)will make disassembly painless next time..YES!arrow toward exhaust port!!!!

Where is the best place to order jets for this carb? Also, where would one get a new needle?
My carb has a 57 main jet in it. My neighbor has a jet set but the lowest one is 85. I think that would be too big of a jump up.
I put the top end on and the engine mounted back onto the frame last night. Today I cleaned out the carb, there is a 3rd (seperate from the main and idel) jet in there that was very white powdered and glogged. I cleaned it out real good and put it back. I am having a hard time remembering where the CID box connects to the frame. Once I get that on, I'll put the air box and the exhaust back on and give it a try.

We are talking 17.5 right?
Rand a 88 on an airbox, around 98 with pod on on a 17.5 with a 70cc on Piaggio

So, I put the carb and muffler on the bike. Then I tried starting it. It turned over a few times then the battery died. I tired another Scooter battery and it would barley turn over. I charged them both then I tired again and the battery cables started smoking. Now the little black box, celenoid?, just clicks even with a fully charged battery when I push the starter button.
I was bummed for 2 days. I was bored after church today and decided I would use the kickstarter and just see what happened. After about 50 to 60 kicks and an itty bitty bit of starter fluid the engine caught right up and purrs like a kitten. I want to do this right! Where's a good article about breaking in a new engine? And how do I break the engine in before I tune it and the carburetor correctly? Jets, etc
