I just ordered the 70cc Malossi Big Bore Kit from the website you provided ThomasTPFL I even got to pay with my paypal Balance!
I need to re-look at the carb that is on my scooter. It is small and might be the 14mm carb. I'm pumped.
I will assume I will need the following: Upjet Aftermarket Air filter Do I need to go Pre-mix or anything to adjust for the bigger ccs? I'll order a new belt New Rollers what else?

The Malossi sport kit runs great. You may have to go with a bigger carb and performance pipe which will be a major cost increase. I am running a Dellorto 19mm carb with a Leo Vince ZX pipe.

I have a DELLORTO PHVA 14 (this is a small looking carb!)
wondering if I should find a 17mm carb.

I would use a 17.5 or bigger carb. There are 19mm clones on ebay for $35. They have very good ratings. I am going to purchase one when I upgrade my other Derbi.

DerbiMan you great!
Do I need to stick with dellorto ? I'm interested in getting a 19mm as well as a decent pipe that will fit!
Again this is my first major work on a scooter and I'm so nervous at buying the wrong parts :/
This forum has been so helpful

No,you don't have to go with Dellorto, but you may have to get a different throttle cable. (More money) Dellortos are easy to tune and the jets are very common and relatively cheap. Treatland is a great place to get jets. I would not suggest using an aftermarket air filter because it makes tuning a lot harder. There are quite a few retailers out there that carry pipes for the Spanish engine. I bought my LeoVince on Ebay Germany shipped for about $100.

That level Malossi iron kit is what my mechanic recommends for basic Street bikes. Good bang for the buck. I've got one on my TGB. Can't give much feedback as I promptly destroyed the 4k+ mile crank bearings after kitting. Did you fix / replace the bearings? How hard is it to do such a repair? Is this something I should be investigating on mine before I put the top on? Got any pictures of your kitting?

My bearings were making noise before I kitted the engine, I just hadnt identified it as bearing noise. I thought it was the reeds making a funny noise. I'm haven't fixed that engine yet. I have too many scooters to distract me, lol. I've been concentrating on the Vespa lately. I didn't take pictures but there are plenty out there. If you're nervous my best advice is to take lots of pictures during disassembly. Every step. That way you can refer back while putting things together. Remember, its all just chunks of metal.

So, can I put the top end on and try to start it up with the stock carb, exhaust etc? I have some jets that I can try that are bigger.
Or do i need to purchase the exhaust and the carb.

You can run that with a stock carb and pipe. Hell, you might get lucky and only have to raise the needle. Start off with a bigger jet and work your way down though until it stops sputtering from being rich. And if the one size jet ends up too big then put the old one back and raise the needle. Don't try raising the needle first, just go straight to a bigger jet first.
