well, went and got a new piece of aluminum . made too many mistakes on the first. was more careful on this one. got the ring mounted to it and drilled all the holes to 9/32nds . using 7mm black socket heads with a 12mm head on the bolt . going to Fastenal tomorrow ; if they don't have them I'll order them from Mcmaster -Carr. takes forever to get here tho.

been dealing with my new old vise past couple of days.





finally made time to finish cutting out the ring for the light .












need to take all the previous brackets off the front end and prep them and maybe get it all primed tomorrow .

here are my new extensions for my mirrors and my 16:9 ,wide screen , panoramic mirrors. I can see with these puppies . cheap plastic . 8 bucks. can't go wrong









a little more progress with the ring. turns out I need to cut some more out of the aluminum for the small inner diameter in order to accomodate the large bulb.I'll just cut it the same as the inside diameter of the black ring and be done with it .

that's weird my pix of the mirror are the only ones missing. no idea .

the other day I was thinking , ok , ready to paint. then I realized I had a lot more work to do first.

removed all the existing brackets ; filed , sanded, prepped
cut the pointy ends off the alum. mounts and made them round.
moved outside to the back yard to finish all metal cutting. metal flakes and dust was getting too much to deal with in the garage.

I guess I didn't keep shaking the can of primer enough while I was spraying. I got this gorgeous texture . took it down a little bit with steel wool . basically 4 coats of primer and here is the 1st coat of black.

gonna have a very nice kind of orange peel texture. maybe look almost a sand finish. aaahhh well.

if the paint adheres well and doesn't flake off , I'll be happy .

 I'm just gonna leave the red gasket oversized on the one side . If I tried to cut it I would end up taking some of the paint off the factory ring with my razor knife . I'd rather just leave it .

Looking good! You’re doing some fun work on this bike.

You could tape the edge so you won’t scratch it. Maybe even use your nibbler to cut it (at least I thought I saw one in your pics).

Try keeping you paint warmed up in hot water. Use two cans and alternate between them when one starts to cool down. A pan of water on a hot plate is great for this.

got the new handlebar switches on this morning with just a little bit of finagling and one totally unnecessary new hole drilled in the underside of the handlebar. ended up just cutting off some more of the left side grip .








now it's time to get back to sorting out the rest of this old harness and trying to semi-duplicate it .

aw heck, I wish I had known about the warm water for the paint before I primed it. the black finish coat went well, no problems at all; but I didn't shake the primer enough as I was spraying and it came out rough. started spitting . I'll live with it.

I appreciate you advice ; I don't expect to be painting anything else now.
I did spray some primer into a little plastic thing and dabbed some paint on the new hole I drilled in the handlebar- that I didn't even need .

Paint cans can blow up if they get too warm (dangerous, big mess, injuries). Use a sharpie to trace a pattern on the rubber then remove the ring and cut the rubber.

re-did this last nite . slow day .didn't do much on it. trying to get the wiring diagram in my head good.
