It’s been a point of contention in our house. When we go riding together, my wife gets her Buddy and I was relegated to the Tao Tao. Originally, I wanted a Zuma but she wanted a Genuine Buddy. She won. Sure her Buddy was shining new and chromed out, and this Zuma is a bit scratched and dinged up, but soon... soon she will be jealous! The plan for this build is mid-race. My rough estimated goals are 15-20hp, 65+mph, 12-14krpm. I’m probably going to have to do some of it slowly because I overpaid for the scoot. After missing about 6 others over the last year, I basically had to beg the seller to take my money. If he wasn’t so responsive to messages, I would’ve given up. So $2100 for a scratched, but low mile Zuma. Build plan is going to be something like... Racing Crank Stage 6 MKII Yasuni C16 Dellorto 21mm Michelin Bopper tires Malossi overrange transmission Stage 6 torque control clutch (From the buddy) (Don’t tell my wife) Gear up kit I’d also like to make it pretty, so probably some black paint. Maybe a wrap. We will see where it goes. I’m excited, but now I need to sell the Tao Tao for my parts budget.

I like where you are going with this . That is alot of complementary go fast products. Spinning above 12k rpms will probably require an ignition upgrade .

Ugh. First issue. The scoot was previously titled as a motorcycle. I need to request a correction from Penndot. I hope it goes through, because I feel like I know more about the scooter/moped registration then the title people do.

Malossi MHR crank, bearings and seals ordered. I hope to at least get some stuff done while it’s sitting in my garage.

Got tons of stuff done, but nothing was easy. Seems like none of the screws or bolts were removed in 17 years, so every one was stuck and needed some love to get lose. The hardest screws so far were the air box. But, once I cleaned the airbox, the scooter idle jumped a lot. Makes me think it was badly in need of cleaning. I took it for a ride and it’s still too slow to be fun. So I decided to start breaking it all down. I still need to pull the head, oil pump and transmission and rear wheel. The rear wheel is surprisingly hard to get off. It seems like it’s seized on the spline. Gotta figure it out later. Probably need a rubber mallet.

I pretty much had to beat mine off with a rubber mallet. I sprayed wd40 around the spline & let it sit but it still took quite a bit of persuasion.

It's going to fly. Which kit are you going for the SportPro, or racing?

I have tried to pick up a project zuma anything worth looking at is selling in that 1800-2000 range and is gone immediately . I tried to look at some genuie buddys and roughhouses used same deal all in that same 1800-2000 range
The stealerships are really holding the price up . I had a out the door price on a roughhouse last year of 2500-2600 bucks . Which I passed on. Same scoot for in stock purchase out the door this year is 3500-3600 .

I'm currently building a stage6 mk2 racing horizontal minarelli and went with an ignition from HPI. It's just a mini rotor rather than inner rotor, but supposedly the charging is pretty good. if in the future I want to upgrade to their digital cdi, I can have complete control over the timing curve. It may be worth looking into.

Wheel off. CVT cover stuck. Does the snap ring on the kick starter have to come out to remove the cvt?
Also have a stuck screw that was behind the oil pump on the seal “holder”. Looks like its locktited in.
Everything is taking so much longer then it should. Grrrr.

The cvt cover should come off with out removins snap ring ditch the black cover so you can properly vent your cvt.
Its been awhile For the cvt black cover I believe I just removed the nut from the Kick start and took that off .
For the whole cover I just replaced all the screws with allen wrench nuts because for tuning you will be taking it on and off quite abit .
m6 25 mm nuts for all the nuts except 2 of them I used m6 3o or 35 mm nuts for those 2 and the center was either a m6 40 or 45 mm
That seal holder nuts and stator nuts required some wd40 when I took mine off for the first time I dot remember any loctite anywhere.
