Thanks. Got the CVT off! Got everything else removed. The seal holder came out with a torque driver.
The whole engine is basically disassembled and I'm waiting on my case splitter to show up tomorrow with the new crank. I hope I have time to get it installed so I can begin reassembling. I am going camping Sunday to Tuesday, so I would love to reassemble while everything is fresh in my memory.
Tonight I do the thing I've been most excited to do. Clean it. It's covered in oily muddy junk and I want it to sparkle!

All parts ordered. Looking like I’m going to need to do the throttle grip mod. I don’t want to lose the stock switches or dashboard.

Crank was supposed to be here today, but it’ll be late. Trying to decide whether to leave the oil pump and starter in. I don’t plan on using the oil pump, but it probably won’t do any harm in there. I don’t know if the starter will have enough torque to start the S6 cylinder. I may just leave it in until I go overrange.

You can space out the starter with shims/washers . I just measured the width of the starter . You will spin up faster and i noticed a couple more rpms up top . With that cylinder /pipe set up you are running you are spinning on the edge of the capacity of the pump.

You definitely notice the difference removing the starting gear. That's a good bit of weight removed from the crank. Just remove all the drive gear from the pump. It's only sapping power anyway. 😉

Do I need a larger width shim for the starter? Seems it gives support to the back of the variator. I may have to leave the starter in until I can find proper sized washers. Unless I can find them locally.
Also, do I need to use any sort of blockoff plate for the oil pump?

I just used variator shims to make up the correct thickness. You could leave the oil pump mounted. If you take off the gear it won't turn. I just made a blanking plate and removed it.

here is my starter delete Electric starter delete I did this a couple weeks back The engine spins up a little faster with the extra weight off the crank . So I did find I am running 6 grams on the variator for the same shift point E-start 5.5 grams was 9100 rpms when I hit the throttle 6 grams was 8800 rpms After Delete 5.5 grams hit 9400 rpms and 6 grams hit 9200 rpms I did have to shim it for taking out Starter clutch I used the Malossi shim that came with the variator on the backside where the starter clutch was I used 2.5 mm total 2.5 to 3 mm would have worked you could use a 1/2 inch washer from a hardware store to space it out . I just measured the starter clutch like this the malossi shim

Thanks. I’ve been reading that budget overrange thread. I’ll probably go in that direction, but want to get the scoot running with the stock variator first to get a feel for it.

Ugh. I messed up. Tried hot cold method to seat the bearings and the first went in crooked. I tried tapping it with the back of the hammer. The bearing is still crooked, but now feels rough. Grrr.
Edit: Ok. That was just a panic post. Bearings are spinning fine now that they’re strait. Had to tap it with a hammer and socket that fit over the collar.

I got almost everything I have back together, but I’m waiting on parts. It also looks like my secondary slider and sheave are warped. Sliders seem cheap. The sheave looks very expensive. Might be cheaper to just buy an overrange. Damn, this is getting pricey!
