There is one thing that baffles me about chinese scooters.. Or maybe I should say chinese scooter owners who are selling thier scooters... On my local CL i often find people with 1 to 2 year old chinese scooters and the asking price is usually just as, if not more high than what you can get a brand new one for. Someone recently sold a tao tao 150 for 1200 when a local dealer has a brand new one for 950 out the door... Whats the deal with this? Are thier similar trends in yalls areas?

Ever since joining this forum awhile back, I have been attracted to the idea of owning a Tao Tao Powermax 150. One reason is I want to build a 4t scooter engine, like a 200-232cc GY6 150.
Second reason is that with a chinese scoot I can do so for cheap compared to fixing up say, my car, motorcycles, or even my Yamaha and Honda scooters.
The third reason is that I can buy replacement plastics for pennies on the dollar compared to my Jogs and Elite. So I could ride it rough and thrash that thing and not cry about spending 600+ plus on plastics when I drop it.
I have yet to own a Chinese scoot, but I for sure will one day!

All you need is a taiwanese carburetor, belt, and fuel/ vacuum lines to get you started. then, just keep a close eye on everything at least once every two weeks.

i dont know about yamaha c3 shim and buckets but toyota shim and bucket valves are a pain. furst measure the valve clearance. second, remove the shim and measure its thickness. third, select a shim of the appropriate thickness (ie if your valves are too tight select a thinner shim, too loose select a thicker shim.). install the shim then remeasure the valve clearance. Its a tedious process that involves having a variety of shims available...

Yah we do love our scoots! Sorry to hear about your bad experience- like mentioned they aren't for everyone! I have posted this vid b4 but I thought it'd be worth another post! If you're thinking about a grom this might just hook ya! Let us know if u get one! This vid alone makes me want one! (These r modified btw). Holy crap! What kind of scooters are those? Yes, I realize they are modded but they sounded like 4 strokers to me. I worked on my scoot most of the day but now I can see I have a long way to go, ha ha. Bill Those are Honda Grom. 125cc over priced 4speed motorcycle. I cant wait to run into one of these slow pieces of junk on my 70cc elite, I will smoke that tthing. Also look at that guys body angle... Turning left with a knee down yet he is leaning right, meaning there is no need for him to take a knee. If he leaned his body to tge inside of the turn he could make the same radius with less lean angle. The grom is ghey, plain and simple. Also every a/m part is rediculously over priced... Think "ruckus2.0". I cant wait to embarras some clown on a grom.

dont give up on scooters. Just give up on that dealer!! Dont let one bad business ruin what could be a world of fun of modifying, tuning, and learning scooters!
