I found a post about making one of these going faster and apparently at one point there were other gears available for the rear. If you could track down one of those and couple it with a BBK and pipe, it would probably gain a bit of performance. On the other hand, it might be more trouble than it's worth and you might be better off making sure everything is in tune and enjoy your $50 scoot.

BBK and performance parts! It's so tiny and unassuming it would be fun to blow the doors off of other scooters with that thing. Edit: I did a little more checking on the drive system, and from what I can tell, it sounds like it uses a go cart style centrifugal clutch which drives the rear wheel with a chain.

That's the guy I saw. I thought it might had made a neat sleeper but I read it doesn't have a conventional CVT? Do you know anything about it? I'm from northern Wi. I see you put your Honda on CL today.

RollingThunder,I love the old Mikuni 'roundy' VM carbs! They were the go-to carb back in the day,,now the flat slide types have taken over as theyve got a shorter body length(important for high HP),flow more CFM's and the top choice is the PWK..The older Keihin PJ (simi flat slide)was used on many MX bikes were good, but somewhat hard to tune.Mikuni makes flat slides too,but the PWK is hands down the best choice... Nice, thanks for the explanation!

You are definitely local to me; I saw that bad boy on CL. It's quite an interesting machine.

Lol, yes, that's why I put rent in quotes; I should've been more specific. It's a great service if you only need a tool once in a blue moon.

This is a really interesting build. PIG, I know you're already going with a PWK but has anyone ever tried any round slide Mikuni (VM) carburetors? They are super common on snowmobiles and I would think you'd be able to find them very cheaply.

You can "rent" a timing light for free from many auto parts stores. Check out your local O Reilly or Auto Zone.

FrankenMech is correct.. 540 k ohms is 540,000 ohms. Now, your meter may have been reading .540 k ohms, which in that case would be 540 ohms. My Fluke likes to do that every now and again. If it's reading 540 ohms, my guess is that the coil is ok. I've never had a coil that read lower than specified not work fine.

anyone got ideas for keeping your neck warm, without covering your whole head? It makes my helmet just a little too snug, and difficult for me to put my glasses on There's lots of options out there if you search for snowmobiling gear. There are super thin balaclavas that really shouldn't add any bulk to your head yet offer nice neck protection. Here's some Arctic Cat branded ideas that you should be able to find without the logo. I use the adult proclava when snowmobiling or ATVing in the cold and don't have any issues with my glasses. There's two neck only options too.

Not that it matters anymore, but all the pressed cranks I've ever worked on for both snowmobile and ATV applications look like that from the factory. I've watched guys rebuild cranks before and some heat them and some don't. It usually depends on how easy they come apart and go back together. I wouldn't worry about it.

Beware of face shield fogging. Mine was trying to fog up at about 45F. I could clear it fy flipping up the shield for a bit. But with a full face ? ? Is there anything we can use to reduce fogging that really works? Greg Yes, get a heated shield for a helmet. It works just like a rear window defroster. Once you try one in cold weather, you'll never go back!

That tach is pretty cool! How's it been working? Does it seem accurate?

Put my snow tires on my truck, washed my ATV and put the plow on it, fixed an old Polaris 6x6, and started to clean out my shed to make room to store my scooter for the winter.
